The Opportunity

As an Operations Research Scientist, you will use advanced optimization modeling techniques to build and deploy prescriptive tools to help drive critical business decisions. You will:

  • Model and document operations processes to better understand how to approach improving them
  • Work alongside Engineering and Operations teams to better understand issues and communicate plans and solutions
  • Develop custom optimization algorithms to solve critical operations and logistics use cases
  • Develop metrics to best measure effectiveness of a solution
  • Perform data analysis to understand anomalies or aberrations
  • Integrate and deploy solutions into existing operations systems

The Skillset

  • BS/MS/PhD in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or related field, or equivalent industry experience
  • 3+ years proven experience as an operations researcher or equivalent role
  • Experience developing and maintaining end-to-end operations research production processes, including data modeling, algorithm development, testing, and metric tracking
  • Strong experience using optimization packages such as CPLEX, Gurobi and OR-Tools
  • Strong experience using programming languages such as C++, Java, and Python to implement optimization models
  • Proficiency in SQL and data processing skills, with exposure/experience with dbt a strong plus
  • Experience in data visualization tools (ex. Sigma, Tableau)
  • Exposure to cloud infrastructure platforms and deployment patterns
  • Ability to communicate with business partners and drive for solutions to complex and abstract problems
  • Effectively communicate, and seek to understand and be understood

90 Days at Flock

The First 30 Days

  • Learn our tech stack, internal toolkit, and data science standard patterns and processes
  • Get to know the technical teams you'll work closely with and the stakeholder groups you'll be building tools for
  • Deep dive into existing data science projects logic and architecture, and SQL data models
  • Onboard to your first Data Science project and begin implementing your own model enhancements

The First 60 Days

  • Deploy your own enhanced versions of the Data Science project you own, including SQL data models and python science model development
  • Begin developing a new Data Science project from the ground up, including roadmap development with business stakeholders, science methodology proposal, and architecture design
  • Build, test, and enhance your own models from the ground up

90 Days & Beyond

  • Be fully independent within our end-to-end automation and deployment infrastructure
  • Implement automated monitoring and testing for your models
  • Continuously refine and enhance your owned projects
  • Begin onboarding and developing further data science use cases to support strategic business needs

Salary & Equity

In this role, you'll receive a starting salary between $150,000 and $170,000 as well as Flock Safety Stock Options. Base salary is determined by job-related experience, education/training, as well as market indicators. Your recruiter will discuss this in-depth with you during our first chat.
