Pharmaceutical Research Scientist, Discovery

Our client, a cutting-edge pharmaceutical company, is seeking a highly motivated and innovative Pharmaceutical Research Scientist to join their Discovery team in Los Angeles, California, US . This role is integral to the early-stage drug discovery process, focusing on identifying and validating novel therapeutic targets and developing innovative drug candidates. You will conduct rigorous scientific research, design and execute experiments, and contribute to the development of new treatments for unmet medical needs. The ideal candidate possesses a strong background in molecular biology, pharmacology, or a related discipline, with hands-on experience in drug discovery techniques and a passion for scientific exploration. Responsibilities include:

Designing, performing, and optimizing in vitro and in vivo experiments to identify and validate new drug targets. Developing and implementing assays for screening compound libraries and evaluating drug efficacy and mechanism of action. Utilizing cutting-edge techniques in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, and pharmacology. Analyzing experimental data, interpreting results, and drawing scientifically sound conclusions. Collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary team of scientists, including chemists, biologists, and toxicologists. Troubleshooting experimental challenges and developing creative solutions. Preparing comprehensive reports, scientific presentations, and manuscripts for publication. Contributing to intellectual property generation through patent filings. Staying current with the latest scientific literature, research trends, and technological advancements in drug discovery. Maintaining detailed and accurate laboratory notebooks and records. Participating in project team meetings, providing scientific insights and strategic input. Mentoring junior scientists and research associates. Ensuring adherence to safety protocols and laboratory best practices. Contributing to the overall strategic direction of the discovery pipeline. Assisting in the selection and development of lead drug candidates for preclinical studies.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, or a related life science field. Postdoctoral experience or 3+ years of relevant industry experience in drug discovery. Proven track record of successful research, as evidenced by publications in peer-reviewed journals. Hands-on experience with a variety of molecular and cell-based assays (e.g., Western blotting, ELISA, flow cytometry, cell culture). Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., GraphPad Prism) and strong statistical analysis skills. Excellent understanding of disease biology and drug discovery processes. Strong problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex scientific information clearly. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Experience with high-throughput screening (HTS) or fragment-based drug discovery (FBDD) is a plus. Knowledge of relevant therapeutic areas is advantageous.
