Our client is a leading biopharmaceutical company seeking a highly innovative and driven Pharmaceutical Research Scientist to join their Drug Discovery team in San Francisco, California, US . This hybrid role offers a dynamic research environment where you will contribute to the identification and validation of novel therapeutic targets and the development of groundbreaking medicines. The ideal candidate will possess a strong scientific background in molecular biology, biochemistry, or pharmacology, coupled with hands-on experience in drug discovery assays and experimental design.
Responsibilities: Design, execute, and optimize in vitro and cell-based assays to identify and validate potential drug targets and hit compounds. Conduct screening campaigns using high-throughput screening (HTS) technologies. Perform hit-to-lead optimization studies, including structure-activity relationship (SAR) analysis. Characterize the pharmacological properties of lead compounds, including potency, selectivity, and mechanism of action. Collaborate closely with medicinal chemists, biologists, and pharmacologists to advance drug candidates through the discovery pipeline. Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and present findings to project teams and management. Contribute to the preparation of scientific publications, patents, and regulatory documents. Troubleshoot experimental issues and develop innovative solutions to research challenges. Stay abreast of the latest scientific literature, technologies, and industry trends in drug discovery. Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory notebooks and electronic records. Ensure compliance with all laboratory safety protocols and company policies. Mentor junior research staff and contribute to a collaborative team environment. Participate in cross-functional project meetings and contribute to strategic planning for drug discovery programs. Qualifications: Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Genetics, or a related life science discipline. Minimum of 3-5 years of post-doctoral or industry experience in drug discovery or a related research area. Proven expertise in designing and performing biochemical and cell-based assays. Hands-on experience with HTS, lead optimization, and compound profiling is essential. Strong understanding of disease biology and therapeutic intervention strategies. Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., GraphPad Prism, JMP) and experience with relevant databases. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills. Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex scientific data effectively. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment. Experience with specific therapeutic areas (e.g., oncology, immunology, neuroscience) is a plus. Familiarity with laboratory automation and instrumentation is advantageous.
