Position Type: Contract

Duration: 12-month contract (potential extensions available)

Client Location: Open to Toronto or Cambridge, ON locations (Travel between the two office may be required at times for specific meetings or events)

Work Model: Hybrid - 2 days onsite

Engagement Model: Professional Services Engagement – B2B (Incorporated Consultants Preferred)

About the Engagement

Akkodis is partnering with a leading Insurance provider to recruit a Portfolio Management Consultant to support the Business-as-Usual (BAU) portfolio within the Enterprise PMO (EPMO).

This is a high-ownership, execution-focused role - not transformation or PMO buildout. You will be responsible for keeping the BAU portfolio running effectively, ensuring governance is executed, reporting is accurate, and financials are well managed.

The environment is structured but evolving, requiring someone who can operate within established frameworks while navigating ambiguity and stepping in hands-on where needed. You’ll act as the key escalation point for Project Managers and a critical layer between delivery teams and senior EPMO leadership.

Services to be Provided

  • Own day-to-day execution of the BAU portfolio, ensuring delivery quality, consistency, and transparency
  • Act as the primary escalation point for Project Managers, proactively resolving issues and removing blockers
  • Run monthly governance forums end-to-end, including preparation, facilitation, and communication of outcomes
  • Ensure portfolio reporting is accurate, audit-ready, and provides clear visibility to leadership
  • Operate within established governance frameworks (no requirement to redesign or rebuild structures)
  • Manage and monitor portfolio and project financials in partnership with finance stakeholders
  • Identify and address financial risks, inconsistencies, and gaps proactively
  • Support annual planning activities, adapting to evolving scope and priorities
  • Build strong relationships across IT, PMO, and business stakeholders
  • Own BAU communications, status reporting, and issue management
  • Direct day-to-day activities of a small team (2 Project Managers + PMO support) without formal people leadership

Expertise Required

  • 7+ years of experience in portfolio and/or project management within an enterprise environment
  • Strong experience managing BAU / run-the-business portfolios (not just project delivery or transformation)
  • Proven ability to manage and oversee portfolio financials in partnership with finance teams
  • Hands-on experience operating within governance and reporting frameworks
  • Ability to balance portfolio-level oversight with execution-level involvement
  • Experience working across both large enterprises and smaller/mid-sized organizations
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence without authority
  • Comfortable operating in structured yet ambiguous environments
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and outcome-driven (not process for process’ sake)

Preferred Experience

  • Experience supporting annual planning cycles and budget processes
  • Exposure to post-merger integration or complex, evolving organizational structures
  • Background in insurance or financial services environments
