Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Appointment for 12 months with possibility of extension) [Ref. T/080/26]

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at City University of Hong Kong invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow position in the area of advanced manufacturing and precision engineering. The successful candidate will join the Smart and Precision Finishing Lab and work on innovative technologies for the finishing and measurement of difficult-to-access internal surfaces fabricated by metallic additive manufacturing, with a particular focus on Magnetically Driven Internal Finishing (MDIF).

Duties

• Design and conduct experiments related to internal surface finishing and measurement;

• Develop theoretical, numerical, or data-driven models for process analysis, material removal, and surface quality prediction;

• Analyse experimental data and prepare technical reports, journal papers, patents, and project-related documents;

• Assist in supervising postgraduate students and supporting daily research activities in the laboratory; and

• Perform any other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• A PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering/Manufacturing Engineering/Precision Engineering/Materials Engineering/Mechatronics, or a closely related discipline;

• A strong research background in one or more of the following areas: polishing, finishing, grinding, precision/ultra-precision machining, surface metrology, additive manufacturing surface post-processing, manufacturing process modelling, robotics/automation, or intelligent manufacturing;

• Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and publish in high-quality international journals;

• Good command of written and spoken English; and

• Strong sense of responsibility, self-motivated, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Candidates with experience in hybrid additive and subtractive manufacturing, robotic machining, or machine learning are highly preferred.
