Position Overview
Synakis is seeking a highly creative and driven Postdoctoral Fellow to lead the development of long-acting drug delivery formulations, with an initial focus on glaucoma therapeutics.
This role is ideal for a scientist passionate about translating cutting-edge biomaterials into clinically impactful therapies. The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing Synakis’ hydrogel platform toward next-generation ophthalmic treatments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop long-acting intraocular formulations using Synakis’ proprietary hydrogel platform
- Optimize drug loading, release kinetics, and stability for small molecules, prodrugs, and biologics
- Engineer formulations tailored for glaucoma treatment, including sustained intraocular pressure control
- Evaluate biocompatibility, degradation profiles, and ocular tolerability
- Collaborate cross-functionally with biomaterials scientists, pharmacologists, and clinical advisors
- Design and execute in vitro and in vivo studies to validate performance
- Contribute to intellectual property development, publications, and regulatory strategy
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field
- Demonstrated experience in organic synthesis and analytical chemistry
- Demonstrated experience in materials science and colloid formulation and characterization
- Deep understanding of controlled release systems and biomaterials
- Proven ability to work creatively and independently in early-stage R&D environments
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ophthalmic drug delivery or sustained delivery drug formulations
- Experience with hydrogels, polymeric systems, or injectable biomaterials
- Knowledge of ocular anatomy, physiology and animal models of ocular disease
- Experience working with biologics, peptides, and prodrugs
- Familiarity with animal models of ocular disease
- Familiarity with toxicology and pharmacokinetic analysis
