Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop long-acting intraocular formulations using Synakis’ proprietary hydrogel platform
  • Optimize drug loading, release kinetics, and stability for small molecules, prodrugs, and biologics
  • Engineer formulations tailored for glaucoma treatment, including sustained intraocular pressure control
  • Evaluate biocompatibility, degradation profiles, and ocular tolerability
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with biomaterials scientists, pharmacologists, and clinical advisors
  • Design and execute in vitro and in vivo studies to validate performance
  • Contribute to intellectual property development, publications, and regulatory strategy

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or related field
  • Demonstrated experience in organic synthesis and analytical chemistry
  • Demonstrated experience in materials science and colloid formulation and characterization
  • Deep understanding of controlled release systems and biomaterials
  • Proven ability to work creatively and independently in early-stage R&D environments

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with ophthalmic drug delivery or sustained delivery drug formulations
  • Experience with hydrogels, polymeric systems, or injectable biomaterials
  • Knowledge of ocular anatomy, physiology and animal models of ocular disease
  • Experience working with biologics, peptides, and prodrugs
  • Familiarity with animal models of ocular disease
  • Familiarity with toxicology and pharmacokinetic analysis

What We’re Looking For

  • A highly creative problem-solver who thrives in ambiguity
  • A scientist eager to translate fundamental science into real therapies
  • Strong communicator and collaborator with a startup mindset

Why Join Synakis

  • Work on breakthrough technology with the potential to transform vision care
