Job Description

Shield AI is redefining autonomous aviation with cutting‑edge AI and GPS/RF‑denied navigation technologies. We’re building a next‑generation aircraft X‑BAT. The Staff Power Engineer leads the design, development, and delivery of high‑performance power systems across our aircraft programs. This high‑ownership role involves defining architectures, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring our power electronics meet the demands of autonomous aviation.

What you'll do:

  • Own flight‑critical power sub‑system design for X‑BAT
  • Design power electronics for the high‑voltage and low‑voltage systems, including inverters, DC‑DC converters, battery management, and other power electronics
  • Harden designs for harsh environments such as shock/vibration, high reliability, radiation, and high altitude
  • Work on power sub‑systems and designs for both low power (10 kW)
  • Full‑cycle hardware development: Own the entire flow—from concept, modeling, worst‑case analysis, schematic capture, simulation, prototyping, design iteration to testing and validation
  • PCB ownership: Drive PCB layout and design with ECAD engineers, optimizing for power density, EMI, thermal, and manufacturability
  • Design for Safety, Manufacturability, and Reliability: Build robust systems following best practices for safety, manufacturing, and reliability
  • Board bring‑up and testing: Execute board bring‑up, verification, validation, and HALT testing to meet rigorous aerospace reliability standards
  • Cross‑functional collaboration: Work closely with Mechanical, CAD, Embedded, Software, Supply Chain, Test Automation, Production, and various aircraft teams throughout the product lifecycle
  • Design review leadership: Lead and contribute to cross‑functional reviews, ensuring robust, high‑integrity engineering decisions and mentor junior engineers
  • Program execution: Manage project timelines, deliverables, and technical milestones to drive on‑time, high‑quality outcomes

Required qualifications:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience as an Electrical Engineer
  • Experience with circuit design, schematic capture, component selection, circuit testing, and debugging
  • A record of hard work, trustworthiness, high standards, and kindness to teammates
  • Familiarity with Altium or equivalent
