09 About the Role: Power Modeling Analyst

The Team:

The analyst will join the North American Power and Renewables team (US and Canada), which conducts industry research and provides forecasts of electricity generation, capacity additions and market prices to a variety of clients.

Responsibilities and Impact:

  • Update and use power market simulation models and interface to address client questions, typically related to price forecasting, scenario and sensitivity analyses, risk assessment, portfolio valuation, and strategic assessments.
  • Collect data and maintain models to perform research tasks for fundamentals and economic analysis of renewables and other supply resources.
  • Carry out topical research to help clients understand drivers, trends, competitive landscape, and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with energy researchers on broader reports and studies, delivering insights through written reports, presentations, and client interactions.
  • Participate in consulting project development and delivery.
  • This position will focus on modeling of the United States and Canadian power markets.

Compensation/Benefits Information: (This section is only applicable to US candidates)

S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $60,000 to $100,000. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual's geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications.

In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan. This role is not eligible for additional compensation such as an annual incentive bonus or sales commission plan.

What We're Looking For:

Basic Required Qualifications:

  • Previous experience of power modelling in North America (US and Canada) is essential.
  • Familiarity with the Aurora power modelling software is preferred, but other power modelling software such as Plexos, Promod, AIMMS and GAMS are also beneficial.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, economics, statistics or industry-related field required.
  • Strong Excel skills are required.
  • This position requires a strong desire to work with numbers, a commitment to consistent and accurate quantitative analysis, and a desire to continually improve analytical processes.
  • Working collaboratively within a larger team to produce forecasts, insights, and reports.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with SQL, Python, R, or other programming languages.
  • Familiarity with visualization software such as Power BI or Tableau.
  • Graduate degree with quantitative skills.
