About Our Team

The Sponsored Brands Impressions‑based Offerings team focuses on amplifying the value of Sponsored Brands in retail media. Our goal is to ensure brands are discovered, attract new customers, and grow their lifetime value sustainably. We develop comprehensive solutions that drive brand visibility and engagement, including advertiser controls and optimization features. Our success is measured by how well shoppers engage with brands and how brands can scale their business using our advertising products.

About This Role

As a Principal Applied Scientist, you will leverage your expertise in machine learning, LLM, and generative AI models to create innovative product experiences that enhance advertiser and shopper satisfaction. This position involves collaborating with various internal Amazon teams to implement state‑of‑the‑art GenAI models in production, while also identifying opportunities to enhance our team’s efficiency and productivity. You will define a long‑term scientific vision for our advertising initiatives based on customer needs and translate this into actionable plans for applied scientists and engineers.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing AI solutions to improve advertiser and shopper experiences for Sponsored Brands, focusing on monetization and optimization systems that utilize generative models.
  • Establishing a forward‑thinking science vision and roadmap for our advertising business, driven by customer insights.
  • Designing and executing A/B experiments for proposed solutions through thorough data analysis.
  • Communicating effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Keeping abreast of advancements in modeling techniques.
  • Envisioning the future development of generative AI and identifying practical applications of these technologies.

Basic Qualifications

  • PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of programming experience in Java, Python, or similar languages.
  • 10+ years of hands‑on machine learning experience, particularly in building robust, real‑time AI systems.
  • 3+ years of specific experience with large language models, including model fine‑tuning and prompt engineering.
  • 3+ years of experience in digital advertising technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proven track record of developing innovative AI solutions.
  • Familiarity with generative model architectures.
  • Research publications or patents related to generative AI.
  • Experience in reinforcement learning and AI model evaluations.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across various US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $179,000/year to $309,400/year, based on factors such as market location and job‑related expertise. In addition to base salary, equity, sign‑on bonuses, and comprehensive benefits may supplement compensation packages. For additional information, please inquire during the hiring process.
