Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

In this role, the Principal BI Analyst is the strategic bridge between raw data and executive decision-making at Sensera Systems. • Lead the development of automated dashboards and reports to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Build ETL pipelines
  • Tooling & Infrastructure: Oversee the selection and maintenance of the BI stack (e.g., Tableau, Power BI, Snowflake, or Looker) and manage vendor relationships.
  • Collaborate with Sales and Marketing to analyze market trends, competitor activity, and customer demographics to optimize revenue and market penetration.
  • Partner with the Product and Engineering teams to interpret large amounts of data to bring rigor to performance and quality analyses.
  • Oversee data governance and quality assurance to ensure "single source of truth" accuracy across all business units.
  • Provide executive-level summaries and data storytelling to support strategic decision-making and investor relations.
  • Evaluate and implement emerging AI tools, such as natural language querying for business users, to match the "AI ecosystem" mentioned in the summary.
  • Trains the entire organization on how to use self-service data tools effectively (data literacy program)
  • Focus on high-level predictive modeling rather than basic ad-hoc requests. Specifically, Trend Forecasting and Anomaly Detection models that actually reduce the ad-hoc requests.
  • Ensure compliance with evolving regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, or state-specific AI statutes)

REQUIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or Business Analytics is standard. An MBA or a Master’s in Data Science is increasingly preferred for senior management roles.
  • 5+ years of experience in business intelligence, data analysis, or a similar leadership role, preferably within a SaaS or IoT environment.
  • Advanced proficiency in SQL and data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, and ETL processes.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical findings into clear business recommendations for stakeholders.
  • Preferred - experience in handling IoT data (time-series and sensor-based telemetry)

SUCCESS IN 90 DAYS:

First 30 Days: Foundation & Assessment

  • Audit the Data Ecosystem: Complete a comprehensive technical audit of the current BI stack and existing ETL pipelines to identify bottlenecks in data quality or "single source of truth" accuracy.
  • Stakeholder Logic Mapping: Conduct deep-dive sessions with the CEO, Sales, Marketing, Engineering, CX and Product teams to document the critical KPIs and "unanswered questions" that currently hinder executive decision-making.
  • IoT Data Familiarization: Establish a baseline understanding of the sensor-based telemetry and time-series data structures unique to Sensera’s IoT environment.

First 60 Days: Strategy & Optimization

  • BI Roadmap Delivery: Present a 12-month BI strategy to the CEO that aligns data initiatives with company growth, specifically highlighting areas for AI tool implementation and natural language querying.
  • Pilot "Self-Service" Training: Launch the first phase of the data literacy program by training a pilot group of business users on self-service tools, reducing their reliance on the BI team for basic reports.

First 90 Days: Strategic Impact

  • Executive Dashboard Suite: Launch a suite of automated, executive-level dashboards that provide real-time visibility into market trends and competitor activity.
  • Vetting Emerging AI: Complete the evaluation of at least one emerging AI tool designed to enhance the "AI ecosystem" mentioned in the strategic summary.
  • Governance Framework: Establish initial data standards and governance protocols to ensure compliance with relevant regulations like GDPR or CCPA.

First 6 months: Strategic Impact & Advanced Analytics

  • Deploy Predictive Models: Successfully move from ad-hoc reporting to high-level modeling by deploying the first iteration of a Trend Forecasting or Anomaly Detection model to reduce reactive requests.
  • Governance Framework: Continue with documentation of data standards and governance protocols to ensure compliance with relevant regulations like GDPR or CCPA.
