Our client is seeking an accomplished Principal Chemical Process Engineer to lead critical initiatives within their research and development division, located in Austin, Texas, US . This is a crucial on-site role that demands extensive expertise and a hands-on approach to chemical process design and optimization.

As a Principal Chemical Process Engineer, you will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and implementing innovative chemical processes that drive efficiency, sustainability, and profitability. You will tackle complex engineering challenges, from pilot scale to full commercial production, ensuring the highest standards of safety and quality are met. Your deep understanding of chemical reactions, mass transfer, heat transfer, and separation processes will be vital in shaping the future of our manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the design and development of new chemical processes and optimize existing ones for enhanced performance and cost-effectiveness. Conduct detailed process simulations and modeling using industry-standard software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) to predict and improve process outcomes. Perform rigorous hazard and operability studies (HAZOP) and other risk assessments to ensure process safety. Develop process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and equipment specifications. Oversee the scale-up of chemical processes from laboratory or pilot plant to commercial manufacturing. Collaborate with R&D scientists, project managers, and plant engineers to ensure seamless integration and execution of process designs. Troubleshoot complex process issues, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions. Evaluate and select appropriate process equipment and materials of construction. Ensure compliance with all relevant environmental, health, and safety regulations. Mentor and guide junior engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement. Author and review technical reports, proposals, and documentation. Stay current with emerging technologies and best practices in chemical engineering.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or a closely related discipline. A minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in chemical process design, development, and optimization, preferably in the specialty chemicals or petrochemical industry. Extensive experience with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, PRO/II) and process safety analysis tools. In-depth knowledge of reaction engineering, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and separation technologies. Proven track record of successfully scaling up chemical processes. Strong understanding of plant operations, equipment, and industrial safety practices. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Exceptional communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels. Demonstrated leadership capabilities and experience in managing complex technical projects. Professional Engineer (PE) license is a strong plus.
