Our client, a world-leading specialty chemicals manufacturer, is seeking an accomplished Principal Chemical Process Engineer to join their innovative team in Boston, Massachusetts, US . This hybrid role offers the opportunity to lead complex process development, optimization, and scale-up projects for advanced chemical manufacturing. You will be instrumental in designing, troubleshooting, and improving chemical processes to enhance efficiency, safety, and product quality. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of chemical engineering principles, reaction kinetics, separation technologies, and process simulation. Your responsibilities will include leading R&D projects from lab-scale development through pilot plant and full-scale manufacturing, ensuring robust and scalable processes. You will conduct process hazard analyses (PHAs), develop process flow diagrams (PFDs), and write detailed process descriptions and operating procedures. Collaboration with research scientists, manufacturing teams, and safety personnel is essential to translate new chemical discoveries into viable commercial products. Experience with process modeling software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and a strong background in organic synthesis or specialty chemical production are highly desirable. Responsibilities: Lead the design, development, and optimization of chemical manufacturing processes. Conduct pilot plant studies and scale-up activities for new chemical products. Perform process simulations and modeling to identify areas for improvement. Develop and execute process hazard analyses (PHAs) and implement safety measures. Create and refine process flow diagrams (PFDs) and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs). Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in manufacturing processes. Collaborate with R&D, operations, and quality assurance teams to ensure successful product commercialization. Mentor and guide junior chemical engineers. Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, environmental, and regulatory standards. Qualifications: Ph.D. or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field. 8+ years of progressive experience in chemical process development and scale-up. Proven experience in specialty chemical manufacturing or related industries. Expertise in chemical reaction engineering, separation processes, and thermodynamics. Proficiency with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS). Strong understanding of process safety management (PSM) principles and PHA methodologies. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Experience with project management and cross-functional team collaboration.
