Our client, a cutting-edge chemical manufacturing company, is seeking an experienced and visionary Principal Chemical Process Engineer to lead critical projects at their facility in Los Angeles, California . This senior-level position requires deep technical expertise in chemical engineering principles, process design, optimization, and scale-up. You will be instrumental in developing and implementing innovative process solutions to enhance efficiency, safety, and sustainability across our operations. This role involves close collaboration with research and development, operations, and engineering teams to translate laboratory findings into robust, commercial-scale processes.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong academic background in Chemical Engineering, coupled with extensive hands-on experience in process simulation, troubleshooting, and debottlenecking. You should have a proven track record of successfully managing complex engineering projects from conception through to completion. Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential, as you will be mentoring junior engineers and presenting technical findings to senior management. **Responsibilities:**
Lead the design, development, and optimization of chemical processes for new and existing products. Utilize process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) to model and analyze process performance. Troubleshoot and resolve complex process issues to improve yield, efficiency, and quality. Conduct thorough process hazard analyses (PHAs) and implement safety improvements. Oversee pilot plant operations and facilitate the scale-up of processes to commercial production. Develop P&IDs, equipment specifications, and operating procedures. Provide technical guidance and mentorship to a team of chemical engineers and technicians. Stay abreast of the latest advancements in chemical engineering technologies and best practices. Qualifications:
Master's or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or a closely related field. 10+ years of progressive experience in chemical process engineering, with a significant focus on process design and optimization. Expertise in process simulation software and thermodynamic modeling. Strong understanding of reaction kinetics, mass transfer, heat transfer, and fluid dynamics. Demonstrated success in leading complex engineering projects and driving operational improvements. Experience with process safety management (PSM) and HAZOP studies. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Exceptional leadership, communication, and interpersonal abilities. Experience working in manufacturing environments, preferably in the specialty chemicals or pharmaceutical sectors. This role is based at our client's facility in Los Angeles, California .
