Job Description

A global leader in specialty chemicals is seeking a highly experienced Principal Chemical Process Engineer to join their innovative team in Seattle, Washington, US . This role operates on a hybrid model, requiring a balance of in-office collaboration and remote work flexibility. You will be at the forefront of designing, optimizing, and scaling up chemical processes, playing a critical role in new product development and existing process improvements. Key responsibilities include:

Leading the development and implementation of new chemical processes from laboratory scale through pilot plant to full commercial production. Conducting process simulations, P&ID development, mass and energy balances, and equipment sizing. Performing hazard and operability (HAZOP) studies and other process safety analyses. Optimizing existing manufacturing processes to improve yield, reduce costs, enhance safety, and minimize environmental impact. Troubleshooting process issues and implementing effective solutions. Collaborating with R&D, manufacturing, and engineering teams to ensure seamless technology transfer and scale-up. Developing and validating process control strategies. Managing capital projects related to process design and equipment installation. Providing technical expertise and mentorship to junior engineers. Staying current with advancements in chemical engineering principles, technologies, and regulatory requirements.

The ideal candidate will possess a Master's or Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, along with a minimum of 10 years of experience in process design, scale-up, and optimization within the chemical industry. Experience with specific processes relevant to our client's industry (e.g., polymerization, catalysis, separation technologies) is highly desirable. Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) and a strong understanding of thermodynamics, reaction kinetics, and transport phenomena are essential. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are required to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and present complex technical information. Demonstrated leadership experience and a passion for innovation are key attributes for this role.
