Our client, a globally recognized leader in specialty chemicals and advanced materials, is seeking a highly experienced Principal Chemical Process Engineer to lead critical R&D and process optimization initiatives at their major facility in Dallas, Texas, US . This senior role demands a profound understanding of chemical engineering principles, reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, separation technologies, and process control. The Principal Engineer will be responsible for developing novel chemical processes, scaling them from laboratory to pilot plant and commercial production, and continuously improving existing operations for efficiency, safety, and sustainability. The ideal candidate possesses exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, a proven track record of successful process development, and strong leadership capabilities to guide technical teams.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the conceptualization, design, development, and optimization of new chemical processes and technologies. Perform rigorous process modeling, simulation, and analysis using tools such as Aspen Plus, HYSYS, or similar software. Conduct techno-economic feasibility studies for new process concepts and scale-up projects. Design and oversee pilot plant trials, interpreting data to validate process models and define operating parameters. Develop detailed process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and equipment specifications. Ensure all processes are designed for maximum safety, efficiency, environmental compliance, and cost-effectiveness. Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in existing manufacturing processes, driving improvements in yield, throughput, and quality. Collaborate closely with R&D chemists, plant operations teams, project engineers, and safety personnel. Mentor junior process engineers and contribute to the technical expertise within the engineering department. Stay abreast of cutting-edge chemical engineering technologies, industry best practices, and emerging scientific literature. Develop and implement process safety management (PSM) protocols and hazard analyses (HAZOP). Author and review technical reports, design documents, and patents.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited institution. Minimum of 10-12 years of progressive experience in chemical process development, scale-up, and optimization within the chemical manufacturing industry (e.g., petrochemicals, specialty chemicals, pharmaceuticals). Deep expertise in fundamental chemical engineering principles, including mass transfer, heat transfer, fluid dynamics, reaction engineering, and thermodynamics. Extensive experience with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS, ChemCAD). Proven ability to translate laboratory findings into robust, scalable, and economically viable industrial processes. Strong understanding of process safety principles and regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA PSM). Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities. Experience with advanced control strategies and automation is desirable. Ability to work independently and manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
This is a career-defining opportunity for a highly skilled and innovative chemical process engineer to make a significant impact on the company's technological advancement and market leadership.
