The Principal Engineer Automation & Equipment Technology will serve as the technical authority for robotics automation and factory system integration across multiple sites. The successful candidate will define and drive robotics automation architecture, design standards, and technical best practices, while providing technical guidance and mentorship to engineers and project teams.
Your Role
Key responsibilities in your new role.
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Act as the technical authority for robotics automation and factory system integration across multiple sites (Singapore, Melaka, Batam).
- Define and drive robotics automation architecture, design standards, and technical best practices.
- Translate manufacturing and business requirements into robust, scalable automation solutions.
- Provide technical guidance, design reviews, and mentorship to engineers and project teams.
Automation & Digital Transformation
- Lead the hands‑on design, integration, deployment, and optimization of:
- Robotics hardware (robot arms, grippers, stockers)
- Equipment load port modifications (input, output, and buffer systems)
- Material handling and transportation systems, including Manufacturing Control Systems (MCS), Fleet managers for Cobot AMR and OHT, Stocker controllers, Routing logic and transport job prioritization
- WIP flow calculation and simulation to meet end‑to‑end automation performance targets
- Drive integration with factory and manufacturing system platforms
- Evaluate emerging technologies, conduct feasibility studies and pilot projects, and recommend adoption based on technical merit and ROI.
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing, quality, and IT teams to identify and implement automation opportunities.
Execution & Engineering Excellence
- Serve as the technical owner for complex automation projects, ensuring solution quality, reliability, and performance.
- Troubleshoot complex system issues, lead root cause analysis, and drive long‑term corrective actions.
- Ensure automation systems are designed for high availability, fault tolerance, and maintainability.
- Manage vendor selection, technical evaluations, and design reviews.
- Support system validation, commissioning, and ramp‑up activities across multiple sites.
- Knowledge Leadership & Collaboration.
- Drive strong technical documentation, design standards, and knowledge sharing across the automation community.
- Coach and support engineers through technical problem solving (without formal people‑management responsibility).
- Act as a key technical interface with equipment vendors, system integrators, and technology partners.
Your Profile
Qualifications and skills to help you succeed.
- Min. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Min. 10–15+ years of experience in the backend semiconductor industry with a strong focus on robotics and automation systems.
- Deep technical expertise in lights out manufacturing, backend processes, WIP flow, and production workflow optimization.
- Strong hands‑on experience in system integration, automation architecture, and troubleshooting complex manufacturing systems.
- Proven hands‑on experience with equipment load port modifications and robotics hardware, including Cobot AMR, OHT, and stockers.
- Demonstrated ability to influence cross‑functional teams through technical leadership rather than formal authority.
- Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and communication skills.
- A strong track record of driving continuous improvement, system optimization, and technology innovation.
