Our client is seeking a highly accomplished and visionary Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead critical design and development initiatives. This is a fully remote position, offering the flexibility to work from anywhere in the United States, with opportunities to engage with a global team on cutting-edge projects. As a Principal Engineer, you will be instrumental in shaping the mechanical design of our next-generation products, driving innovation from concept through to production.
The ideal candidate will possess a deep and broad expertise in mechanical engineering principles, encompassing thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, stress analysis, material science, and design for manufacturing. You will be responsible for tackling the most complex engineering challenges, mentoring junior engineers, setting technical direction, and ensuring the highest standards of design integrity and performance. This role demands exceptional leadership qualities, a passion for innovation, and the ability to translate intricate technical requirements into robust, reliable, and cost-effective mechanical solutions. You will leverage advanced simulation tools and rigorous testing methodologies to validate designs and drive continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the mechanical design and development of complex systems and components from concept to mass production. Define technical requirements, architecture, and design specifications for new products and features. Perform advanced analysis, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and thermal analysis, to validate designs. Develop and execute comprehensive design verification and validation plans. Mentor and guide a team of mechanical engineers, providing technical leadership and fostering a culture of innovation. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineering, software engineering, product management, and manufacturing. Drive the selection of materials, components, and manufacturing processes, optimizing for performance, reliability, and cost. Identify and mitigate technical risks throughout the product development lifecycle. Stay abreast of emerging technologies, industry trends, and best practices in mechanical engineering. Develop and maintain design documentation, including CAD models, drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and technical reports. Contribute to strategic technical roadmap planning and R&D initiatives. Troubleshoot and resolve complex design and manufacturing issues. Represent the mechanical engineering team in technical reviews and customer engagements. Champion design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles.
Qualifications:
Master's degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in mechanical design and product development. Proven track record of successfully leading complex engineering projects. Expertise in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA, AutoCAD) and FEA/CFD tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus, COMSOL). Deep understanding of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and solid mechanics. Extensive experience with material selection, manufacturing processes (e.g., injection molding, CNC machining, stamping), and quality control. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic, and remote work environment. Experience in (mention a specific relevant industry, e.g., consumer electronics, automotive, medical devices) is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to innovate and develop novel engineering solutions. This remote opportunity offers a highly competitive salary, equity options, comprehensive benefits, and unparalleled opportunities for professional impact and growth.
