Our client, a leader in advanced robotics and automation solutions, is seeking a highly experienced Principal Mechanical Engineer to join their innovative engineering division in Austin, Texas, US . This role is central to the design and development of sophisticated robotic systems and automated manufacturing equipment. You will lead complex mechanical design projects, mentor junior engineers, and drive the technical direction for new product development, ensuring that designs meet stringent performance, reliability, and cost targets. The ideal candidate possesses a deep understanding of mechanical design principles, kinematics, dynamics, and materials science, with a proven track record in the robotics or automation industry.
Responsibilities: Lead the mechanical design and development of complex robotic systems, end-effectors, and automated machinery from concept to production. Perform detailed mechanical design using CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor, CATIA), including component design, assembly, and drafting. Conduct advanced engineering analyses, including Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for stress, strain, thermal, and vibration, and Kinematic/Dynamic simulations. Select appropriate materials and manufacturing processes to meet design requirements for performance, cost, and durability. Collaborate closely with electrical engineers, software engineers, and control systems engineers to ensure seamless system integration. Develop and implement robust testing and validation plans for mechanical subsystems and complete systems. Mentor and guide junior mechanical engineers, providing technical expertise and fostering professional growth. Contribute to technical roadmaps, identify innovative solutions, and stay abreast of emerging technologies in robotics and automation. Prepare and present design reviews, technical documentation, and project status updates to management and stakeholders. Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards and safety regulations. Optimize designs for manufacturability, assembly, and serviceability. Qualifications: Master's degree or Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Minimum of 10-12 years of progressive experience in mechanical design and development, with a significant focus on robotics, automation, or complex electromechanical systems. Expertise in 3D CAD software and proficiency in performing advanced FEA and dynamic simulations. Strong understanding of kinematics, dynamics, control systems, and mechatronics. Proven ability to lead complex design projects from conception through to production release. Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills. Exceptional communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills. Experience with a variety of manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, injection molding, 3D printing). Familiarity with motion control, sensors, and embedded systems is highly desirable. Experience in a fast-paced startup or high-growth technology environment is a plus.
