Position Summary
In the Principal People Risk and Compliance Analyst role, you will act as a Subject Matter Expert for risk management and compliance frameworks, helping the People team align with enterprise-wide strategies, legal and regulatory obligations, and company standards. This position blends hands-on execution with strategic influence, working directly with People Leadership, Legal, Internal Audit, and other key teams to address regulatory and operational risks.
This is a hybrid position that includes both remote work and designated in-person attendance at company headquarters, adjusted as necessary to meet business needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and refinement of a robust risk management framework for the People team, ensuring alignment with corporate risk strategy, compliance requirements, and internal standards
- Maintain a comprehensive risk register, controls documentation, and mitigation actions, using analytics to detect and respond to risk trends and emerging vulnerabilities
- Translate complicated audit, legal, and regulatory requirements into practical, scalable controls and operating practices
- Serve as a resource for CPUC oversight activities, overseeing regulatory audits, formal inquiries, data requests, and remediation actions
- Drive standardization, process documentation, and the adoption of Lean governance to strengthen risk and compliance culture
- Continually monitor regulatory changes and assess their implications, providing senior leaders with timely awareness and actionable guidance
- Prepare executive-level reports, dashboards, and presentations that communicate risk status and recommended actions
- Collaborate with stakeholders—People leaders, Legal, Internal Audit, and cross-functional partners—to resolve emerging risks, reinforce audit preparedness, and strengthen control environments
- Mentor and develop others on risk awareness, compliance expectations, and best practices to encourage shared ownership of compliance across the organization
Compensation Details
- Bay Area Minimum: $136,000
- Bay Area Midpoint: $184,000
- Bay Area Maximum: $232,000
Placement within the salary range is determined by skills, experience, education, internal equity, market value, and other considerations, with most offers expected at the minimum to midpoint of the range.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Management, Risk and Insurance, Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related area, or equivalent experience
- At least 10 years of experience in risk or compliance management, utility operations, or related fields
Preferred Background
- Master’s degree or equivalent, with experience applying Lean standards for continuous improvement
- Ability to analyze business operations and guide strategic and process improvements
- Demonstrated history of managing large, cross-functional initiatives
- Skilled in handling sensitive issues diplomatically
- Experience in driving process and regulatory improvements through project leadership
- Strong analytical, communication, and relationship-building abilities for working with both executives and regulatory agencies
- Collaborative approach for building relationships across departmental lines
- Clear, concise communicator of complex regulatory concepts to diverse audiences
