Job Description

Our client, a prestigious pharmaceutical company at the forefront of drug discovery and development, is seeking a highly accomplished Principal Pharmaceutical Research Scientist to join their innovative R&D team in **Los Angeles, California**. This critical role involves leading groundbreaking research initiatives, designing and executing complex experiments, and contributing to the development of novel therapeutics. You will be a key scientific leader, mentoring junior scientists and driving projects from early-stage discovery through to preclinical development. This position requires a deep understanding of molecular biology, pharmacology, and drug development processes, along with a passion for scientific excellence and a commitment to improving patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead independent research projects focused on identifying and validating novel drug targets and therapeutic strategies. Design, optimize, and execute in vitro and in vivo experiments to assess compound efficacy, safety, and mechanism of action. Analyze and interpret complex experimental data, drawing robust conclusions and making data-driven recommendations. Develop and implement advanced assay methodologies relevant to disease areas of interest. Contribute significantly to the preparation of research reports, publications, patents, and regulatory submissions. Mentor and guide junior scientists, fostering a collaborative and innovative research environment. Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including medicinal chemists, toxicologists, and clinical development scientists. Stay abreast of the latest scientific literature, technological advancements, and competitive landscape in relevant therapeutic areas. Present research findings at internal meetings and external scientific conferences. Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets effectively. Contribute to the strategic planning of the research pipeline and long-term R&D goals. Ensure all research activities comply with ethical guidelines, safety regulations, and company policies. Develop and troubleshoot complex experimental protocols. Contribute to the selection and evaluation of external research collaborations and technologies. Champion scientific rigor and innovation within the research department.

Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Pharmacology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a closely related life science discipline. Minimum of 8 years of post-doctoral and/or industry research experience in drug discovery and development. Demonstrated track record of independent research and significant contributions to scientific advancements, evidenced by publications and/or patents. Expertise in one or more therapeutic areas (e.g., oncology, immunology, neuroscience, infectious diseases). Extensive experience with a broad range of molecular and cellular biology techniques, including but not limited to Western blotting, PCR, ELISA, cell-based assays, and flow cytometry. Proficiency in designing and conducting in vivo studies is highly desirable. Strong understanding of drug development processes from discovery to preclinical stages. Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex scientific information effectively. Proven leadership and mentoring capabilities. Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment. Experience with bioinformatics tools and data analysis is a plus.
