Principal Pharmaceutical Research Scientist - Drug Discovery

Our client is seeking a highly accomplished Principal Pharmaceutical Research Scientist specializing in Drug Discovery to join their innovative research division in Phoenix, Arizona, US . This senior role is central to advancing our client's pipeline of novel therapeutics by leading cutting-edge research initiatives and contributing scientific expertise to preclinical drug development. You will spearhead the design and execution of complex research projects, manage laboratory operations, and mentor junior scientists.

Key responsibilities include identifying and validating novel drug targets, developing and optimizing in vitro and in vivo assays for drug screening and characterization, and designing and implementing high-throughput screening campaigns. You will interpret experimental data, draw insightful conclusions, and translate findings into strategic research directions. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including medicinal chemists, pharmacologists, and toxicologists, is essential for advancing compounds through the drug discovery process. Publishing research findings in high-impact scientific journals and presenting at international conferences will also be a significant part of this role.

The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. in Pharmacology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or a related life science discipline. A minimum of 8 years of post-doctoral and industry experience in drug discovery research is required, with a proven track record of successful project leadership and contribution to IND-enabling studies. Extensive experience in target identification and validation, assay development, lead optimization, and preclinical candidate selection is essential. Hands-on expertise with various biochemical and cellular assays, molecular biology techniques, and animal models of disease is highly desirable. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, excellent written and oral communication abilities, and the capacity to lead and inspire a research team are critical.
