A Day in the Life Join Medtronic’s Engineering organization as a Principal Process Engineer - Advanced Manufacturing Engineer (AME), a pivotal hands on role driving innovation, modernization, and scalable manufacturing solutions within our Grand Rapids operations. In this role, you will lead the development and implementation of advanced manufacturing processes, assembly lines, and tooling solutions that transform complex technical challenges into safe, efficient, and robust production systems—while maintaining the highest standards of quality and patient safety. As a key member of the Operations Extended Team, the Principal AME will focus on new process development, manufacturing innovation, and complex assembly solutions to enable successful product launches and sustainable production performance. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned. Support the Capital Expense Request (CER) process, specifying costs for Assembly and Packaging Equipment, and Test Fixtures, with consideration to product standard cost targets and capacity demands. Support assembly and test equipment validations and qualifications including FAT, SAT, IQ/OQ/PQ, and MSA studies. Troubleshoot and develop solutions to address Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) for New Product Development programs/equipment. Advise Management of any unmitigated risks and/or developments that could affect schedule, standard cost, or revenue. Lead AME group’s awareness of new technology advances associated with production process development and assembly and test equipment including data collection and vision systems Provides technical and sustaining engineering support in a manufacturing area. Recommends and implements equipment and process modifications to meet quality standards and improve production efficiencies, manufacturing techniques as well as production yields for existing products. Integrates equipment and material capabilities to meet process module target specifications and technology target specifications. Reviews product development requirements for compatibility with processing methods to determine costs and schedules. Interacts with product design and development personnel to ensure that processes and designs are compatible. May develop and conduct statistical analysis or recommend additions to document work. Leads the innovation, development and/or optimization of new manufacturing concepts, processes and procedures for transfer to manufacturing operations. This can include scouting and feasibility work, material selection, process and equipment selection, tooling / fixture and equipment installation and assessment of inputs, outputs and alignment to requirements. Develops manufacturing processes that are applicable to statistical process control and may develop those techniques including the measurement systems.
