Job Description

Our client, a global leader in the specialty chemicals industry, is seeking an accomplished Principal Process Engineer to join their state-of-the-art facility in Miami, Florida . This critical role will be responsible for the design, optimization, and scale-up of complex chemical processes, ensuring safety, efficiency, and environmental compliance. You will lead major process engineering projects, from conceptualization through to commissioning and ongoing operational support. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in chemical reaction engineering, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and separation technologies. You will work extensively with R&D, operations, and project management teams to translate laboratory findings into robust, scalable manufacturing processes. This position involves performing detailed process simulations, developing P&IDs, heat and material balances, and equipment specifications. A key aspect of this role is troubleshooting existing processes, identifying opportunities for improvement, and implementing solutions that enhance yield, reduce costs, and minimize waste. You will also be responsible for conducting Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and ensuring adherence to stringent safety regulations. The Principal Process Engineer will mentor junior engineers, share technical knowledge, and contribute to the company's technical strategy. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are essential, as you will be presenting technical findings and recommendations to senior leadership. This role requires hands-on engagement with plant operations and a commitment to continuous improvement in a demanding industrial environment. Experience with various unit operations and process control strategies is highly desirable. The ability to lead complex projects and influence cross-functional teams is paramount for success. This role is inherently on-site, requiring full dedication to the operational needs of the facility.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead the design, development, and optimization of chemical processes. Perform process simulations and modeling using industry-standard software. Develop P&IDs, heat and material balances, and equipment specifications. Conduct Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) and ensure process safety compliance. Troubleshoot and resolve complex process issues to improve efficiency and yield. Oversee process scale-up from pilot plant to commercial production. Collaborate with R&D, operations, and project teams to implement new technologies. Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers. Ensure adherence to environmental regulations and sustainability initiatives.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering. 10+ years of progressive experience in process engineering within the chemical industry. Expertise in reaction engineering, thermodynamics, separations, and process control. Proficiency in process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS). Strong knowledge of PHA methodologies (e.g., HAZOP). Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills. Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills. Proven ability to lead complex technical projects and manage stakeholders. Experience in specialty chemicals manufacturing is a significant advantage. This position is a critical on-site role requiring a strong presence in the plant.
