Our client, a leading innovator in scientific research and development, is seeking a distinguished Principal Research Scientist specializing in Advanced Materials to join their collaborative team in **Los Angeles, California, US**. This high-impact role involves leading cutting-edge research projects focused on the discovery, synthesis, characterization, and application of novel materials with transformative potential. You will be responsible for defining research roadmaps, designing and conducting complex experiments, and interpreting sophisticated data to drive scientific breakthroughs. The ideal candidate will possess a deep theoretical understanding coupled with extensive hands-on laboratory experience and a proven history of publishing in peer-reviewed journals and presenting at international conferences. You will mentor junior scientists, foster a culture of innovation, and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product development and engineering, to translate research findings into commercially viable solutions. This role requires strong leadership skills, exceptional problem-solving abilities, and a passion for pushing the boundaries of material science.

Key Responsibilities: Lead independent research initiatives in advanced materials science, including polymers, composites, nanomaterials, or ceramics. Design, execute, and interpret complex experiments to synthesize and characterize novel materials. Develop and validate theoretical models and simulation tools for material behavior. Identify and pursue new research opportunities and funding sources. Author high-impact scientific publications and present research findings at leading conferences. Mentor and guide junior research scientists and postdoctoral fellows. Collaborate with engineering and product development teams to facilitate technology transfer. Manage research project timelines, budgets, and resources effectively. Stay abreast of the latest advancements and emerging trends in materials science globally. Contribute to the intellectual property portfolio through invention and patent applications. Ensure adherence to safety protocols and best practices in the laboratory environment. Qualifications: Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field. Minimum of 10 years of post-doctoral research experience in an academic or industrial R&D setting. Demonstrated expertise in at least one area of advanced materials (e.g., polymers, composites, nanomaterials, metallurgy, ceramics). Extensive experience with advanced characterization techniques (e.g., microscopy, spectroscopy, diffraction, thermal analysis). Proven track record of leading research projects, securing funding, and publishing in high-impact journals. Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Strong leadership and team mentoring capabilities. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex scientific concepts. Experience with computational materials science and modeling is a plus. Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, cross-functional team environment.
