Our client, a cutting-edge research institution at the forefront of scientific discovery, is seeking a highly accomplished Principal Research Scientist to lead groundbreaking research in Advanced Materials. Based in our vibrant **Houston, Texas, US** facility, this role offers a hybrid work arrangement, blending impactful on-site laboratory work with flexible remote capabilities. You will be responsible for designing, executing, and managing complex research projects focused on developing novel materials with superior performance characteristics for diverse applications, including aerospace, energy, and biomedical fields. This pivotal role involves conceptualizing innovative research hypotheses, developing experimental methodologies, and interpreting complex data sets to drive scientific advancement. The ideal candidate will possess a deep theoretical understanding of materials science, coupled with extensive hands-on experience in synthesis, characterization, and testing of advanced materials. You will mentor junior researchers, contribute to securing research funding through grant writing, and disseminate findings through high-impact publications and presentations at international conferences. Collaboration with internal teams and external academic and industrial partners will be crucial for success. This position demands exceptional scientific rigor, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a passion for pushing the boundaries of material science.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and execute high-priority research projects in advanced materials science from conception to completion. Design and implement novel experimental protocols for material synthesis, characterization, and performance evaluation. Analyze and interpret large, complex datasets using advanced statistical and computational tools. Develop and validate theoretical models to predict material behavior and performance. Mentor and guide a team of research associates and postdoctoral fellows. Author high-impact research papers for peer-reviewed journals and present findings at national and international conferences. Write and submit grant proposals to secure external funding from government agencies and foundations. Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, academic institutions, and industry partners to foster innovation and accelerate technology transfer. Ensure compliance with all laboratory safety regulations and ethical research practices. Stay abreast of the latest advancements and emerging trends in materials science and related fields. Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field. Minimum of 10 years of post-doctoral research experience, with a significant portion focused on advanced materials. Proven track record of leading independent research programs and publishing in leading scientific journals. Extensive experience in materials synthesis (e.g., CVD, PVD, sol-gel), characterization techniques (e.g., SEM, TEM, XRD, spectroscopy), and mechanical/electrical/thermal testing. Strong theoretical foundation in solid-state physics, chemistry, and mechanics of materials. Demonstrated success in obtaining research grants and funding. Excellent leadership, mentoring, and team collaboration skills. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex scientific information clearly. Proficiency in data analysis software and computational modeling tools. Experience in a hybrid work environment is beneficial.
