Principal Research Scientist - AI/ML

Our client, a world-renowned research institution in **Chicago, Illinois, US**, is seeking a distinguished Principal Research Scientist with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. The Principal Research Scientist will conceptualize, design, and execute ambitious research projects, publish findings in leading academic journals, and contribute to intellectual property development. The ideal candidate possesses a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, or a related quantitative field, coupled with a substantial publication record and a deep understanding of cutting-edge AI/ML techniques, including deep learning, reinforcement learning, natural language processing, and computer vision. Experience in applying these techniques to scientific domains such as genomics, astrophysics, materials science, or climate modeling is highly advantageous. This role demands exceptional analytical skills, creativity, and the ability to translate theoretical concepts into practical, impactful solutions. Responsibilities:

Lead the conceptualization and execution of high-impact research projects in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning. Develop and implement novel AI/ML algorithms and methodologies. Apply advanced AI/ML techniques to solve complex scientific problems in various domains. Mentor and guide a team of research scientists and data scientists, fostering innovation and collaboration. Publish research findings in top-tier academic conferences and journals. Contribute to patent applications and intellectual property development. Secure research funding through grant proposals and other initiatives. Stay abreast of the latest advancements in AI/ML and related scientific fields. Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, Mathematics, or a closely related quantitative field. 10+ years of post-doctoral research experience in AI/ML, with a strong publication record in leading venues. Expertise in multiple AI/ML areas, including deep learning (e.g., CNNs, RNNs, Transformers), reinforcement learning, NLP, and computer vision. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and deep learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch). Experience applying AI/ML to scientific research problems (e.g., genomics, physics, climate science). Proven ability to lead research teams and manage complex projects. Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. Outstanding communication and presentation skills.
