Principal Research Scientist - Drug Discovery

Our client, a renowned pharmaceutical company at the forefront of medical innovation, is seeking a highly accomplished Principal Research Scientist to lead critical drug discovery initiatives within their state-of-the-art research facility in Dallas, Texas . This is a hands-on, lab-based role demanding exceptional scientific expertise and leadership.

As a Principal Research Scientist, you will spearhead the identification and validation of novel therapeutic targets, design and execute complex experiments, and drive projects from initial concept through to preclinical development. Your work will directly impact the development of life-changing medicines for patients worldwide.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and manage multiple drug discovery projects, defining research strategies and setting clear objectives. Design, optimize, and implement innovative experimental approaches in areas such as medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, or molecular biology. Analyze and interpret complex experimental data, drawing robust conclusions and making informed recommendations. Develop and validate novel assays and screening methodologies for target identification and lead compound optimization. Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including chemists, biologists, toxicologists, and clinical development scientists. Author high-impact publications, present research findings at international conferences, and contribute to patent applications. Mentor and guide junior scientists, fostering a collaborative and intellectually stimulating research environment. Stay current with the latest scientific literature, emerging technologies, and competitive landscape in relevant therapeutic areas. Contribute to the strategic direction of the research department and identify new areas for scientific exploration. Ensure compliance with all laboratory safety regulations and ethical guidelines.

Required Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Pharmacology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or a related life science discipline. A minimum of 10 years of post-doctoral research experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, with a strong focus on small molecule or biologic drug discovery. Demonstrated success in leading and advancing drug discovery projects from target identification through to early clinical candidates. Extensive hands-on experience with relevant experimental techniques and instrumentation. Proven ability to design and execute complex scientific studies, analyze data rigorously, and generate impactful results. Exceptional track record of scientific publication and presentation. Strong understanding of drug development processes, regulatory requirements, and intellectual property landscape. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a team.
