Principal Research Scientist - Organic Chemistry

A leading R&D organization dedicated to pharmaceutical innovation is seeking a Principal Research Scientist with expertise in Organic Chemistry to join their esteemed team in Cincinnati, Ohio, US . This critical role will focus on the design, synthesis, and characterization of novel organic molecules for therapeutic applications. As a Principal Research Scientist, you will lead independent research projects, conceptualize innovative synthetic routes, and execute complex multi-step syntheses. Your responsibilities will include developing and optimizing reaction conditions, troubleshooting synthetic challenges, and ensuring the highest standards of experimental rigor. You will be proficient in a wide array of modern organic chemistry techniques, including spectroscopy (NMR, MS, IR), chromatography (HPLC, GC), and X-ray crystallography for compound characterization. Collaboration is essential; you will work closely with medicinal chemists, biologists, and pharmacologists to advance drug discovery programs from hit identification through lead optimization. You will author scientific publications, present research findings at conferences, and contribute to patent filings. Mentoring junior scientists and providing technical guidance to the research team will be a key aspect of this role. The ideal candidate will possess a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a closely related field, with a minimum of 8-10 years of postdoctoral and/or industrial research experience. A strong publication record and demonstrated success in synthesizing complex organic molecules are required. Expertise in asymmetric synthesis, catalysis, or total synthesis is highly desirable. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills are mandatory. Experience with computational chemistry tools and familiarity with drug discovery processes are a plus.
