Job Description

ABOUT NEXTSTEP

NextStep connects top consulting talent with high-potential opportunities through smart, AI-powered matching. We partner with ambitious companies across sectors to place experienced professionals in roles where they can have a real impact. On behalf of a client in our partner network, we are currently looking for a Private Equity VP to join their team.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Our client is a London-based mid-market private equity fund with £2.5bn AUM, investing in buyouts across the industrials, business services, and healthcare sectors in the UK and Western Europe. With a portfolio of 14 active investments and a strong recent track record, the fund is deploying its fourth vehicle and has ambitious plans for new acquisitions. The investment team is lean, highly capable, and places significant emphasis on operational value creation alongside financial engineering.

THE ROLE

As a VP, you will take a leading role in deal origination, execution, and portfolio management. You will work closely with management teams of portfolio companies, drive value creation initiatives, and contribute meaningfully to new investment decisions with a clear path to Principal as the fund continues to grow.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Lead financial modelling, due diligence, and investment committee documentation for new acquisitions and add-ons.
  • Manage relationships with portfolio company management teams, acting as a day-to-day interface on performance, strategy, and governance.
  • Identify and drive value creation initiatives within portfolio companies, including commercial growth, operational improvement, and M&A.
  • Contribute to deal sourcing through relationship development with advisors, management teams, and sector specialists.
  • Mentor and develop junior members of the investment team.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • 5–8 years of experience across investment banking and private equity, with a minimum of 2 years in a PE role.
  • Strong LBO modelling and financial analysis skills.
  • Proven ability to manage complex deal processes and work effectively with management teams and advisors.
  • Commercial instincts and genuine interest in operational value creation, not just financial structuring.
  • Experience in industrials, business services, or healthcare is preferred but not essential.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • Base salary of £120,000 – £150,000, depending on experience.
  • Carried interest participation from the current fund vehicle.
  • Annual cash bonus reflecting fund and individual performance.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including pension and private health cover.
