Job Description

Our client, a highly respected chemical manufacturing company in **New York City, New York, US**, is seeking an experienced Process Engineer specializing in specialty chemicals. This critical role will focus on optimizing and scaling up chemical processes, ensuring safety, efficiency, and product quality. The ideal candidate will possess a strong foundation in chemical engineering principles, coupled with hands-on experience in process design, simulation, troubleshooting, and implementation within a production environment. You will work closely with research and development, production, and quality control teams to bring innovative chemical products to market effectively and safely.

Key Responsibilities: Design, develop, and optimize chemical manufacturing processes for specialty chemical products. Conduct feasibility studies, pilot plant trials, and scale-up analyses. Utilize process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS) to model and analyze process performance. Develop P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams) and equipment specifications. Troubleshoot process issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions to improve efficiency and yield. Ensure all processes comply with safety regulations, environmental standards, and quality control protocols. Collaborate with R&D to transition new chemical syntheses from laboratory to commercial scale. Implement process improvements to reduce costs, enhance safety, and minimize waste. Provide technical support to the production team and train operators on new or modified processes. Stay current with advancements in chemical engineering technology and industry best practices. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering; Master's degree preferred. Minimum of 5 years of experience in process engineering within the chemical industry, with a focus on specialty chemicals or fine chemicals. Proven experience in process design, scale-up, and optimization. Proficiency in process simulation software and data analysis tools. Strong understanding of chemical reaction engineering, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics. Knowledge of safety management systems (e.g., HAZOP) and environmental regulations. Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. Strong communication and project management abilities. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Experience with batch processing and continuous processing is desirable.
