About the Role
We are looking for a Process and Metallurgical Engineer to design, optimize, and scale up BioMetallica’s metal recovery systems. This role will involve developing advanced chemical and metallurgical processes, optimizing unit operations, and leading plant design efforts for efficient metal separation and purification. This is an excellent opportunity to lead impactful projects in sustainable metallurgy and contribute to BioMetallica’s mission of environmentally responsible metal recovery.
Responsibilities
- Design, scale up, and optimize processes for metal extraction, recovery, and purification from bioleached solutions and waste materials.
- Develop and refine unit operations including leaching, separation, precipitation, and filtration to maximize recovery efficiency.
- Utilize advanced chemical engineering techniques to control process parameters and ensure optimal system performance.
- Perform thermodynamic and kinetic modeling to predict and improve metal recovery and separation efficiency.
- Lead the design and implementation of pilot plant systems, including reactor and separation equipment sizing, material compatibility, and operational safety.
- Develop and execute protocols for safe handling and recovery of precious metals, with a focus on low-energy and environmentally sustainable methods.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams on plant layout, process design, and equipment selection, ensuring alignment with environmental and safety standards.
Qualifications
- Master’s or Ph.D. in Biomining, Hydrometallurgy, Chemical Engineering, Metallurgy, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience in chemical and metallurgical process engineering, with expertise in separation science, thermodynamics, and kinetics related to metal recovery.
- Proficiency in process modeling and simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HSC Chemistry, MATLAB) for chemical engineering calculations and process optimization.
- Hands-on experience with designing and operating unit processes such as leaching, electrochemical separation, ion exchange, and crystallization.
- Knowledge of industrial plant design, including equipment sizing, process flow diagrams (PFD), and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID).
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations and safety standards related to metallurgical processing.
- Ability to lead pilot and production scale-up projects, including troubleshooting and optimization of plant operations.
