PSA Engineer – GSW Transmission (Network/Transmission GSW)
Location: Toronto (Remote)
Role
Description:
Deliver and customize Energy Management Systems (EMS) and Power Distribution Management Systems (PDMS) for electric power utilities, with a focus on transmission applications such as load flow, contingency analysis, and power factor. Lead configuration, optimization, and troubleshooting of live production systems.
Key Screening Questions
- Have you worked on Power Systems applications for transmission (Load flow, contingency analysis, Power Factor, etc.)?
- Name any power systems applications (Transmission) for which you have implementation expertise.
- Do you have a minimum of 2 years of implementation experience and customization of power system applications?
- Do you have experience in developing applications using C++ and Java?
- Do you have hands‑on grid experience?
Experience and Technical Skills
- 4+ years of experience in developing, customizing, and delivering EMS for electric power utilities.
- Deep knowledge of Power DMS, Transmission EMS implementations, and SCADA integration.
- 4+ years of experience with C, Java, SQL/Oracle Database; +3 years with OOPS, basic C++ and full‑stack Java; experience with other related languages.
- 4+ years of experience with EMS and AEMS product development.
- 4+ years of experience on Linux and Windows operating systems, shell scripting, and SQL database administration.
- Experience with real‑time or mission‑critical systems; ability to install fixes on live customer systems, debug logs, and troubleshoot complex issues.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and decision‑making skills.
- Generic managerial skills – ability to manage client discussions and conduct technical reviews.
- Effective communication, documentation, and presentation abilities.
- Familiarity with project management tools (MS Project, Primavera, or similar).
Required Experience Range
6–8 years of relevant experience, including project management and client interaction.
Education
Master’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
PSA Engineer – GSW DTS (Dispatcher Training Simulator)
Location: Toronto (Remote)
Key Screening Questions
- Do you have hands‑on experience with Dispatcher Training Simulator (DTS) for EMS?
- Do you have experience implementing Power System Applications such as Power Flow, State Estimator, Contingency Analysis, Load Forecasting?
- Do you have experience with enhancement, defect fixing in EMS, ADMS, SCADA?
- Have you worked on Linux OS and databases managing the EMS environment?
- How comfortable are you with scripting or database queries for troubleshooting or configuration?
- Have you worked with Qtest and Grip tools?
Technical and Functional Responsibilities
- Administer and optimize EMS through application configuration, tuning, and security patching (preferably GE Power On Reliance (XA21) and/or AEMS Platform Software, or equivalent Siemens, OSI, ABB, Schneider).
- Manage real‑time RTU, IED, and Console simulations (ICCP, IEC, DNP3, Modbus, Data Modeling, XML/JSON).
- Proficient in Linux and Windows operating environments.
- Maintain relational databases such as Oracle and SQL Server.
- Conduct model validation, defect fixing, and event creation for DTS systems.
- Perform technical corrective actions to restore failed or failing EMS services.
- Lead code review, deployment, testing, and monitoring of break/fix patches.
Required Experience and Skills
- Over 5 years of experience in Power System Applications including Power Flow, State Estimator, Contingency Analysis, Load Frequency Control (AGC), and DTS.
- Proficient in programming languages (C, C++, PERL, or similar) with at least 3 years of experience for system integration or scripting.
- SQL and shell scripting proficiency, with ability to read and interpret logs and debug files.
- Experience in installing fixes on live customer systems.
