As a Public Finance Analyst in our Infrastructure Team, you’ll help shape the future of public sector financing, working alongside industry leaders and gaining exposure to all aspects of the capital markets. As a Public Finance Analyst in our New York office, you will work with our Infrastructure Teams to deliver investment banking solutions for public sector clients, including state and local governments, non-profit organizations, and other entities issuing tax-exempt debt. You’ll collaborate with sales & trading, underwriting, derivatives, and debt capital markets desks, gaining hands-on experience in live transactions and client engagement.

Job responsibilities

  • Develop customized financial models in Excel to structure bond financings for public sector clients
  • Utilize industry-approved third-party programs (DBC) to prepare bond structures
  • Perform credit and debt capacity analyses for specific credits based on industry/sector
  • Prepare responses to requests for proposals as part of the solicitation process
  • Create and manage debt profiles for issuers/credits
  • Evaluate existing debt portfolios for refunding/restructuring opportunities
  • Execute bond financings and collaborate across Public Finance, DCM, syndicate desks, credit origination, and derivatives marketing

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Previous Public Finance experience at an investment bank or financial advisory firm, with preference for Public Power and/or Transportation
  • Experience with DBC software, bond structuring, and transaction execution
  • Undergraduate degree from a competitive university or higher
  • Coursework in finance or economics
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong teamwork, communication skills, and high energy level
  • Ability to manage projects independently and commit to the multi-year analyst program

Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Experience working in Public Power and/or Transportation sectors
  • Ability to produce accurate, detailed materials under tight deadlines
  • Adaptable and able to work well under pressure
  • Strong work ethic and readiness to assume high responsibility as a team member
