About Hyperlayer
Hyperlayer is a B2B product company, building a platform to revolutionise the world of payments. Hyperlayer transforms digital wallets into smart wallets that change the way people, and businesses, spend money. Wallets powered by Hyperlayer let consumers withdraw money from multiple accounts with a single tap, for a specific purpose.
Our platform enables capabilities such as connecting specific accounts with targeted brand spending, it gives merchants and customers access to cutting-edge rewards, and since spending is social, Hyperlayer supports group saving, sharing and spending. All in one platform.
Hyperlayer is working with large retailers and financial institutions. Our product introduces innovation to these industries to create solutions: helping consumers, families, and groups improve their financial wellbeing by making their money go further.
About The Role
- We’re hiring a hands-on QA Automation Lead to take technical ownership of how we test the Hyperlayer platform. This is a senior engineering role with two halves: extending and rebuilding our automation frameworks in the codebase , and lifting the technical capability of our existing QA team through example, code review, and shared standards.
- You’ll report into the Head of Architecture & QA and work closely with engineering, product, and client implementation teams. People management is a possibility for the right candidate, but it isn’t a requirement of the role — finding the right technical fit is our priority. If you also want to grow into line management of QA over time, that path is open.
- This role is predominantly office-based in Paddington, London.
What You'll Do
- Own the QA automation strategy across our platform, with a strong focus on API-level testing for our payments services.
- Develop and extend our existing automation frameworks (REST Assured, Postman/Newman, and internal tooling), keeping them maintainable, fast, and trusted by the engineers who depend on them.
- Design and build new frameworks where gaps exist — contract testing, data-driven test harnesses, performance and load testing, and whatever else our roadmap demands.
- Embed automated testing deeper into our CI/CD pipelines so that quality signal arrives early and reliably.
- Raise the technical bar for the existing QA team through code review, pairing, and shared standards — helping manual testers grow into automation engineers where there is appetite.
- Partner with engineering leads on test architecture for new services, so quality is designed in rather than bolted on.
- Work alongside Product and Client Implementation to make sure what we test reflects what clients actually do, especially for payment flows where edge cases have real financial consequences.
- Be the technical voice of QA in planning, design reviews, and incident postmortems.
Qualifications
Essential
- Significant hands-on QA automation experience, with a clear track record of building and evolving automation frameworks from scratch — not just maintaining someone else’s.
- Deep API automation expertise: REST Assured (or equivalent API testing), Postman/Newman, and a working understanding of contract testing.
- Strong coding ability in at least one of Java/JVM based languages, Golang, or a similar language used for test framework development — production-quality framework code, not just test scripts.
- Direct experience working in fintech, payments, or another regulated financial services environment — you understand why testing money movement is different.
- Solid grasp of CI/CD pipelines and how automated testing integrates with them (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar).
- Comfortable being the most technical QA voice in the room — setting standards, pushing back on shortcuts, and bringing the rest of the team along.
- Willing and able to be in our London office four days per week.
Desirable
- Experience with non-functional (fuzz-testing, contract testing) and performance testing (JMeter, Gatling, k6).
- Exposure to UI automation frameworks (Playwright, Selenium, Cypress) where they complement an API-first strategy.
- Experience mentoring or formally line-managing QA engineers — if you want the management path to be open.
- Experience interacting with third party clients or vendor QA teams
- Familiarity with payment schemes, ISO 20022, card processing, or open banking.
