Job Description

Kerndell is seeking a Quality Engineer for a 6 to 8 month contract to support a Woodlands, Texas-based oil services company. The chosen quality engineer will aid in the development and implementation of a Quality Management System (QMS). This role is focused on building clear, practical SOPs and Work Instructions (WIs) and driving adoption across operations. You will work cross-functionally to translate requirements into usable processes that support ISO-aligned systems.

This role requires someone who can:

  • Turn requirements into clear, usable SOPs and Work Instructions
  • Apply a practical, operations-focused mindset (not theoretical)
  • Work effectively across teams and drive process adoption
  • Deliver in a fast-paced, contract-driven environment

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop SOPs and Work Instructions (WIs) aligned to ISO 9001 principles
  • Build processes that support consistent execution and audit readiness
  • Lead development of WIs for:
  • Resource Planning and Management
  • Inspection and Testing
  • CAPA (Corrective and Preventive Action)
  • Control of Nonconforming Product/Service
  • Support development of operational WIs covering:
  • Control of Production and Service
  • Identification and Traceability
  • Customer or External Provider Property
  • Preservation
  • Control of Changes
  • Release of Products and Services
  • Develop Contract Review WIs:
  • Customer Communication
  • Determining Requirements for Services
  • Review of Requirements
  • Support:
  • QMS implementation activities
  • Internal audits (as directed)
  • NCR system development and analysis
  • Collaborate across Operations, Engineering, Technical Writing, and Customers to drive alignment

Requirements

  • Experience in Quality Engineering or QMS development
  • Strong ability to write clear SOPs and Work Instructions
  • Experience with ISO 9001-based systems
  • Ability to influence cross-functional teams without authority
  • Experience with CAPA and non-conformance processes

Preferred

  • Internal Lead Auditor qualification
  • Experience supporting QMS audits or certification readiness
  • Familiarity with NCR systems and reporting
  • Background in manufacturing, oil & gas, or technical services
