Quality Engineer

At Trayport, as a Quality Engineer you are at the core of every team, collaborating with not just the immediate developers in your team but all other teams involved in the development process. As such, candidates should be passionate about delivering high quality software, eagerly hunting down bugs and potential issues and looking for ways in which we can give our clients the best possible user experience.

Our Quality Engineers use a combination of shift-left and shift-right testing techniques, exploratory testing, technical testing and test automation to build quality into our software, working closely with the rest of their team and coaching others on how to write better software. The Team

The Analytics and Data cluster owns Trayport’s rule-based trading and technical analysis systems. They amplify our client’s ability to turn market data into action by making data driven and risk aware decisions in their day to day trading. Essential to this is creating software that is performant, accurate and reliable in helping them with their most pressing business needs.

What makes this team particularly exciting is that it is responsible for an analytical engine where high-frequency market data is transformed into visual strategies, having also developed our own proprietary programming language for it. The teams do all this while looking at ways to constantly innovate, and ensuring data is accessible in various forms whether in browser, integrated in other products of ours, or even mobile.

Here, both front-end and back-end testing will require digging into APIs, logs, databases, running scripts, using networking tools, 3rd party and internal test tools in a deeply collaborative environment where everyone helps each other. The role involves understanding complex user workflows in finance and trading, and ensuring we build quality into our software. Responsibilities

•

Perform session based exploratory testing to find unique bugs that could only be discovered by the most creative people

•

Perform release testing to ensure no issues arise during or after deployment

•

Defining and executing the quality and testing strategy for your team while coaching other team members to ensure software quality is considered throughout the development process while shifting left

•

Review and contribute to design documents

•

Help developers brainstorm what should be covered in the automated tests, and contributing to automation where appropriate

•

Working closely with the Product Team and developers to ensure we are building the right software for our customers

•

Acting as a point of contact regarding product knowledge from various members of the business

•

Contributing to documentation to ensure knowledge is easily shared between team members

•

Monitoring alerts and customer support chats, utilising our observability stack and embracing a shift-right approach to software quality

•

Investigate and perform root cause analysis on bugs, putting on your detective hat and diving into the code when necessary

•

Actively grow our culture of quality and engage in quality related topics across the organisation through pairing with your colleagues or during other quality community events

The Person

•

A strong background in software quality and exploratory testing

•

An inquisitive nature, with excellent analytical and problem solving skills

•

Understanding of testing concepts, methodologies and processes

•

Good communication skills, has the ability to clearly explain issues that were found

•

Can read and understand programming languages, ideally some experience with either C#, C++ or TypeScript

•

Willing to participate in technical discussions

•

Ability to learn and adapt quickly to highly complex issues

•

Happy to collaborate with a wide group of stakeholders

•

Experience contributing to user stories and acceptance criteria
