Roughly $55-75/hr depending on experience, some wiggle room
Position Overview
We are seeking a Network Engineer to design, implement, and maintain scalable, secure, and highly available network infrastructure that supports our cloud-native and on-premises services. The role combines traditional NetOps responsibilities with DevOps practices and automation to improve reliability, observability, and deployment speed. You will collaborate with engineering, security, and operations teams to deliver infrastructure-as-code solutions, CI/CD pipelines, and operational runbooks that support mission-critical applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, and maintain LAN, WAN, and cloud networking components to ensure high availability, performance, and security.
- Implement and maintain network automation using tools such as Ansible and Python to reduce manual work and accelerate change delivery.
- Build and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) templates and CI/CD pipelines to provision and manage network and cloud resources consistently.
- Collaborate with platform and SRE teams to integrate networking with Kubernetes, MCP, and other container platforms.
- Develop and operate observability for the network stack using logs, metrics, and tracing (e.g., Elasticsearch, SolarWinds, and other monitoring tools).
- Operate and tune messaging and streaming components (e.g., Kafka) as they relate to networked services and integrations.
- Create and maintain runbooks, configuration management, and incident response procedures; participate in on-call rotations.
- Use ServiceNow for change management, incident tracking, and request fulfillment, ensuring accurate documentation and SLA compliance.
- Leverage AI-assisted tooling and analytics where appropriate to improve detection, remediation, and capacity planning.
- Partner with security teams to implement network segmentation, firewall policies, VPNs, and access controls to meet compliance and risk requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience
- 5+ years of network engineering or NetOps experience in cloud and hybrid environments, including hands-on routing, switching, and firewall configuration
- Proven 5+ years experience with network automation using Ansible and Python scripting to automate tasks and configuration drift remediation
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code practices and tools (Terraform, CloudFormation or similar)
- Experience integrating networking with Kubernetes and container platforms; familiarity with MCP or equivalent managed cloud platform concepts
- Familiarity with observability tooling and log platforms such as Elasticsearch and SolarWinds, and experience defining meaningful network metrics and alerts
- Experience working with Kafka or other messaging platforms and understanding their networking requirements and tuning
- Practical experience with ServiceNow for change and incident management workflows
- Strong troubleshooting skills across TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, MPLS, VPNs, and related protocols, and experience with packet capture and analysis
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills; able to translate technical concepts to cross-functional teams and support on-call operations and incident post-mortems
