CrowdPlat is seeking a detail-oriented Research Analyst Intern to support biomedical technology landscape research for federal innovation and open-science projects. The analyst will help identify, assess, and organize companies, research groups, institutes, and technologies across emerging healthcare and life sciences domains.
This role is ideal for someone with strong research skills, comfort reading scientific and technical material, and the ability to turn fragmented information into clear, structured market intelligence.
The initial focus will include market surveys in areas such as liquid biopsy technologies, drug repurposing companies, and novel urinalysis technologies, with emphasis on identifying relevant organizations, technology maturity, clinical status, capabilities, differentiators, and contact information.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct structured market and technology landscape research across biomedical, diagnostic, biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and life sciences sectors.
- Identify relevant companies, universities, nonprofits, government labs, research groups, and technology providers.
- Research technologies related to:
- Liquid biopsy and multi-cancer early detection
- Drug repurposing and AI-enabled therapeutic discovery
- Novel urinalysis, biosensors, microfluidics, omics, and biomarker discovery
- Review company websites, scientific publications, FDA materials, clinical trial listings, press releases, investor materials, and other public sources.
- Build comparison matrices covering technology type, use case, maturity, regulatory status, clinical status, target diseases, differentiators, and contact information.
- Summarize findings clearly for internal review and client-facing deliverables.
- Help identify potential solution providers, partners, active researchers, and available technologies.
- Support outreach preparation by collecting organization names, key personnel, email addresses, websites, and relevant background.
- Track sources and maintain clean documentation so findings can be verified.
- Work with the project lead to refine search criteria, prioritize leads, and close research gaps.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, biomedical engineering, biotechnology, public health, pharmacy, healthcare, data science, or a related field.
- Strong online research and analytical skills.
- Ability to read and summarize scientific, technical, and market information.
- Comfortable working with spreadsheets and structured comparison tables.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to verify information across sources.
- Clear written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Comfortable researching unfamiliar technical topics quickly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with biomedical technology scouting, market research, competitive analysis, or literature reviews.
- Familiarity with one or more of the following:
- Liquid biopsy
- Cancer diagnostics
- Biomarkers
- Clinical trials
- FDA approval pathways
- Drug repurposing
- AI in drug discovery
- Urinalysis, proteomics, metabolomics, transcriptomics, or exosomes
- Experience using sources such as PubMed, ClinicalTrials.gov, FDA databases, Google Scholar, company websites, Crunchbase, PitchBook, or NIH/NSF databases.
- Prior experience supporting federal, healthcare or research-focused projects is a plus.
- Ability to distinguish between commercialized, investigational, clinical trial, translational, and proof-of-concept technologies.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate is a strong researcher who can take a broad technical question and break it into a structured search plan. They are comfortable reviewing scientific and company information, extracting the most relevant facts, and presenting findings in a clean, decision-ready format.
This person does not need to be a deep subject-matter expert in all three areas, but they must be intellectually curious, organized, and able to learn quickly.
Example Deliverables
- Technology/company landscape spreadsheet
- Comparison matrix of identified technologies and attributes
- Summary profiles of high-priority companies or research groups
- Contact list of relevant solution providers
- Short written summaries of key findings, trends, gaps, and recommended follow-up targets
