Research and Design Engineer

Description

Researches, plans, and implements the design, construction, assembly, testing, troubleshooting and maintenance of research tools and equipment.

• Designs and builds scientific equipment and/or instruments to facilitate research efforts.
• Compiles and analyzes operational, test, and research data to implement research and design concepts into equipment design and construction.
• Provides electronic and system level troubleshooting of prototype devices to aid product development and improves existing equipment to achieve desired functionality.
• Drafts designs and builds prototypes of scientific equipment and/or instruments.
• May write technical documentation and related reports as needed.
• Evaluates and recommends design modifications.
• Provides technical support, guidance and expertise to students and faculty staff regarding all phases of front-end engineering, including design, construction and implementation.
• Tests components, instruments and equipment and provides solutions to technical problems.
• Performs other job-related duties as required.

Experience Will Be Considered In Lieu Of Education.

MQ: Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of directly job-related experience.
