Job Description Summary / TWC Summary

Under general supervision, the selected candidate will support general operations in the Office of Research in COPHS. The candidate will assist faculty in pre- and post-award activities including CAYUSE system, NIH grant document preparation, IACUC and IRB activities, hiring paperwork, procurement activities, and travel for faculty and students. He/she will also be responsible for coordinating team meetings and research lab maintenance activities that are following NIH and other granting agency rules and regulations.

The candidate will also be responsible for multiple research projects by assisting with the development of research questions, data collection, data analysis, and the writing and presentation of research findings. In this role, the candidate will help carry out the research agenda established by COPHS.

Essential Duties

  • Ensure day-to-day operations of the Office of Research (OOR). Answer routine questions concerning COPHS research activities and operations. Screens and directs telephone calls and visitors to appropriate people.
  • Process, create and route requisitions, contracts and reports for review and signature. Assists with the coordination and tracking of pending documents or requests for information from internal and external contacts.
  • Updates all OOR information shared through COPHS. Coordinates and arranges meetings and travel plans. Prepares meeting agendas, reserves rooms and facilities, and distributes minutes of meetings when required.
  • Organizes and maintains file system. Tracking grant submissions, publications & lab scholarly activities. File’s correspondence, materials and other records for future reference according to established file retention schedule and procedures.
  • Supporting faculty research by coordinating lab experiments, instrumentation and resource utilization. Orders and maintains supplies and arranges for equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Conducts research. Develops methods for problem solving, process change, and solutions implementation that ensure enterprise–wide integration. Identify best practices, assess performance measurement, and research, collect, and verify data and translate it into strategic and operational guidance.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

PhD degree in biomedical science-related field, with research experience in pharmacy and health sciences.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of:

  • Policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Experience with federal, state and local requirements for grant funded research.
  • Requires knowledge in computational model analysis such as Win Nonlin and Symcyp.
  • Knowledge of basic office and financial and procedures.

Skill in:

  • Detail oriented.
  • Both verbal and written communication.

Ability to:

  • Managing data, conducting quantitative and qualitative analyses, and design and implement laboratory research work including molecular, cellular, animal models, and human based studies.

Work Experience

  • Requires knowledge and experience in general laboratory management and support services for research; laboratory safety and monitoring protocols; molecular and cellular experimental techniques; a working knowledge of standard practices and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment or water treatment system.

Preferred

  • Knowledge in research grant process is preferred.
  • Experience in peer-reviewed publications is preferred. Knowledge of laboratory safety and monitoring protocols.
  • Knowledge of molecular and cellular experimental techniques.

Working/Environmental Conditions

  • Routine office environment.
  • Sitting or standing in one location much of the time.
  • Some stooping, lifting or carrying objects lightweight may be required.
  • Use of video display terminal.
