This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite in La Jolla and remote.

DESCRIPTION

The Department of Radiation Medicine & Applied Sciences (RMAS) has a strong commitment to research in a wide variety of disciplines including health outcomes and equity, health services, basic science, radiobiology, imaging, technology development and implementation, clinical trials, education, and systems engineering and design. RMAS researchers are funded by multiple societies and organizations including the National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute (NCI), Department of Defense (DOD), American Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) and the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA).

The Center for Health Equity Education & Research (CHEER), within RMAS, is an interdisciplinary group of scientists, clinicians, and community partners that aims to achieve optimal health outcomes for all individuals diagnosed with cancer by working to eliminate disparities among underserved and underrepresented communities. The mission of CHEER is to facilitate transformative research focused on health equity and to foster an educational environment aimed at improving health equity among under-represented and under-served populations. Key to fulfilling the CHEER mission is building strong partnerships throughout the community, working to support cancer health equity initiatives, advance health equity efforts within our region and nation, and enable our mentees, students, fellows, and faculty to advance health equity through their work.

The Research Data Analyst will work, largely independently to design analytic workflows, build and manage research databases, ensure data quality and perform advanced statistical analysis for multi-study academic teams. Partnering with Principal Investigator(s) and stakeholders, the analyst will plan, develop and execute the statistical analyses of studies, write analysis sections for research manuscripts and grant applications, advise on study protocols and measurement, translate complex results into clear tables, figures, dashboards and briefings. The analyst will utilize their experience functioning within, extracting, and analyzing Epic electronic health record data, within particular focus on Epic COSMOS.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Seven years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor’s degree in related area plus three years of related experience/training.
  • Epic Cosmos Data Architect and Data Scientist certification.
  • Thorough knowledge of research function.
  • Thorough skills associated with statistical analysis and systems programming.
  • Thorough skills in analysis and consultation.
  • Skills to communicate complex information in a clear and concise manner both verbally and in writing.
  • Skills in project management.
  • Research skills at a level to evaluate alternate solutions and develop recommendations.
  • Knowledge of quantitative data analytic techniques. Proficiency in common statistical techniques including but not limited to time-to-event analysis, multivariable and multi-level regression modelling, with accompanying graphing experience.
  • Advanced SQL plus R and/or Python (often SAS/Stata, too); strong experience with relational databases and datasets with 10M+ rows.
  • Ability to work independently, set methods, and prioritize multiple studies.
  • Demonstrated experience in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions to various research questions.
  • Prior experience working with large databases including VA/VINCI, SEER, SEER-Medicare, electronic health record (EHR) and/or claims data.
  • Keeps abreast of technical advances in storage, documentation and dissemination of computerized data.
