Overview

The Grinding & Finishing Technology team at Saint-Gobain Research North America is seeking a highly motivated Research Engineer I to support abrasives technology and new product development. Reporting to a Senior Research Engineer, the candidate will work with global cross functional teams for sample characterization, test method development, data analysis and product evaluation through internal simulation, customer field tests and external collaborations. The Research Engineer I will develop skills in measuring and analyzing grinding processes, assist in creating and evaluating new measurement tools, design experiments, and support product and application engineers during new product launches.

Responsibilities

  • Support R&D projects in grinding and finishing to advance new product development and process improvements
  • Set up and maintain robust simulations of customer grinding applications, including equipment, tooling, methods, and data practices
  • Collaborate with global Grinding Technology Centers to ensure consistent testing, efficient workflows, and high-quality data representation
  • Develop expertise in grinding process measurement and analysis, including evaluation of new measurement tools and technologies
  • Design and analyze experiments that improve understanding of abrasive processes and product performance
  • Work with business managers, product managers and application engineers for customer field tests, failure model analysis, application mapping and new product launch
  • Prepare clear technical reports and present findings to R&D and business partners

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, materials science or a closely related discipline
  • Knowledge and experience with DoE and statistical analysis
  • Knowledge of Excel Macros or Python or any other coding software
  • Hands-on experience with manual or CNC machining, grinding operations, or other material removal processes (preferred)
  • Hands-on problem-solving experience in R&D or a manufacturing environment (preferred)
  • Experience in machining or grinding science, process theory, or related materials engineering disciplines (preferred)

Benefits

Certain locations require pay information be provided in job postings. Saint-Gobain aims to deliver a comprehensive Total Rewards package to support our employees’ wellbeing and help improve daily life for themselves and their families. The national pay range for this position is $72,500 to $111,500 per year, with base pay varying by geographic region, internal equity, knowledge, skills, and experience. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 9% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. The Total Target Cash range (base pay and annual bonus) is $79,025 to $121,535. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and are not guaranteed.
