Company: Aimorphous Healthtech Limited
Job Title: Research Scientist – Diagnostic Product Research & Development
Location: Hong Kong Science Park (HKSTP), Hong Kong
Employment Type: Full-time, Contract (Eligible for Research Talent Hub funding)
Start Date: Immediate or by appointment
About Aimorphous Healthtech
Aimorphous Healthtech is an innovative I&T tenant at HKSTP dedicated to developing advanced blood diagnostic systems. Our mission is to drive longevity and healthcare sustainability through cutting-edge technology. We are seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist to join our R&D team and lead the development of next-generation diagnostic solutions.
The Role (Supported by Research Talent Hub)
This position is supported by the Innovation and Technology Fund (ITF) Research Talent Hub (RTH-SPC). The role is exclusively focused on conducting research and development (R&D) activities in Hong Kong to advance our bioanalytical and biomarker methodologies.
The selected candidate will work under the direct supervision of our Programme Coordinator to resolve specific scientific and technological uncertainties in the field of in-vitro diagnostics.
Key Research & Development Responsibilities
- Existing & Planned R&D Activities Aimorphous Healthtech is focused on developing high-precision bioanalytical methods for disease detection. The company is currently expanding its R&D capabilities to develop novel assays in hemostasis, thrombosis and immunology.
- Technological Problem: Current diagnostic methods for early-stage coagulation disorders lack the sensitivity and speed required for point-of-care intervention. There is a need to develop more robust and reliable biomarker detection methods.
- R&D Scope & Approach: This role will focus on resolving these technological uncertainties by designing, developing, and optimising new biochemical assays. The approach involves experimental design, prototype development, and analytical validation to ensure scientific and technical feasibility.
- Scientific Advancement: This R&D aims to achieve an advance in diagnostic science by creating new methods to detect specific biomarkers with higher precision. This will contribute to the underlying technology of preventive healthcare by enabling earlier and more accurate diagnosis.
- R&D Duties Assigned to the Research Talent
- Assay Development & Optimisation: Design and conduct experiments to develop and refine assays for disease-related biomarkers.
- Method Validation & Statistical Analysis: Perform complex data analysis and statistical evaluations of experimental results to validate the sensitivity, specificity, and reproducibility of new diagnostic methods.
- Bioanalytical Problem-Solving: Investigate and resolve scientific/technical uncertainties encountered during the R&D process, proposing and testing hypotheses to understand the novel biomarker and improve assay performance.
- Technical Documentation for R&D: Prepare detailed research protocols, experimental plans, and scientific reports to ensure the integrity, traceability, and completeness of all R&D data for internal review and potential publication, in complaint to GLP standard.
Required Qualification & Eligibility (for RTH Funding)
To be eligible for this position under the RTH-SPC programme, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- Academic Qualification:
- A Master’s or Doctoral degree (PhD preferred) in a STEM-related field such as Biomedical Laboratory Diagnostics, Life Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or Immunology.
- The degree must be awarded by a local university OR a non-local institution ranked among the top 100 in STEM subjects (QS, ARWU, THE, USNWR).
- Candidates with degrees from non-local, non-top 100 institutions must provide a qualification assessment report issued by HKCAAVQ.
- Field of Study: The degree must be in a field relevant to the R&D activities (Biomedical Diagnostics, Life Sciences, etc.).
- Work Status: Must be legally permitted to work in Hong Kong.
Desired Technical Skills & Experience
- Strong knowledge of diagnostic and biochemical methods, specifically in assay development.
- Hands-on experience in coagulation, hematology, hemostasis, or immunology is highly preferred.
- Proficiency in statistical analysis for data science applications in R&D.
- Familiarity with laboratory operations and quality systems (e.g., GxP, ISO 13485) in the context of R&D is an advantage.
- Computer proficiency (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); programming skills are a bonus.
Personal Attributes
- Detail-oriented, disciplined, and highly motivated to solve complex scientific problems.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent command of written and spoken English (Mandarin is a bonus for team collaboration).
- Team oriented working attitude.
- Empathetic, communicative, with entrepreneur-spirit and collaborative.
