Job Description

Research Scientist

Early-Stage Biotech Startup | San Diego

We are a small NIH-funded biotech startup based in San Diego working on precision medicine, molecular diagnostics, proteomics, and translational research in ophthalmology and related diseases.

Our team works closely with real clinical samples and real-world patient data, combining biomarker discovery, Olink proteomics, molecular assays, AI tools, and translational research to develop next-generation diagnostic platforms.

This is not a large corporate environment.

We are a small, founder-led startup where people work closely together, wear multiple hats, move quickly, and help shape both the science and the direction of the company.

We are looking for someone who enjoys building things in an early-stage environment and is excited about learning, exploring, and solving problems across disciplines.

Recent PhD graduates, postdocs, or scientists looking for a more entrepreneurial and hands-on environment are encouraged to apply.

What You May Work On

Depending on your background and interests, projects may include:

  • Olink proteomics and biomarker data analysis
  • Clinical and molecular dataset analysis
  • Biomarker discovery and translational research
  • Immunoassay and molecular assay development
  • Multiomics and AI-related exploratory projects
  • Research planning, scientific communication, and grant-related work
  • Exploring new disease applications and research directions

The role is intentionally flexible and broad.

We care more about curiosity, initiative, adaptability, and scientific thinking than fitting into a rigid job description.

What We’re Looking For

  • PhD or Master’s degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Molecular Biology, Biomedical Engineering, Data Science, or related fields
  • Experience or strong interest in biological data analysis, proteomics, biomarker research, or translational medicine
  • Experience analyzing Olink data or proteomics datasets is highly valued
  • Familiarity with Python, R, bioinformatics workflows, or statistical analysis tools is helpful
  • Comfortable working independently in a fast-moving startup environment
  • Curious, proactive, collaborative, and willing to learn new things quickly

Position Structure

We are flexible on structure depending on background and fit.

This role may be:

  • Full-time
  • Part-time
  • Contract/project-based

The position is supported by active NIH funding and ongoing translational research programs.

To Apply

Please send:

  • Your CV
  • A short introduction about your background and interests
  • Anything you’ve worked on that you’re excited about

We especially welcome candidates who are excited about startup environments, translational science, and building new things from the ground up.
