Research Scientist - Otorhinolaryngology, H&N Surgery lab
Position Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist (PhD or MD) to join a growing translational research program focused on obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and airway‑related pathophysiology. The lab integrates animal models, neuroscience, and immunologic approaches to study mechanisms of sleep‑disordered breathing and tissue remodeling. This position offers the opportunity to work on novel animal models, including innovative platforms to study airway injury and repair, with strong potential for high‑impact publications and career development. As needed, may serve as backup in contacting clinical study participants.
Position Key Accountabilities
- Generate animal models; design and conduct animal experiments.
- Conduct molecular and cellular assays including PCR/qPCR, Western blotting, flow cytometry, and cell culture.
- Participate in experimental design, data analysis, and manuscript preparation.
- Contribute to ongoing translational and collaborative projects across disciplines (basic neuroscience, ENT, Neurology, Pulmonary Medicine).
- Execute and assist in interpreting the results of complex scientific experiments using advanced equipment, complex technique methods, and procedures.
- Evaluate and interpret data analysis to support publications. Prepare results for publication, presentation at meetings, or direct communication with faculty members.
- Determine project feasibility in terms of staff, time, and resources.
- Plan and perform quantitative and qualitative research procedures in various scientific areas. Identify ideas for new research projects by partnering with key stakeholders. Formulate a project and implement experiments to execute the research project.
- Assist the principal investigator in writing and submitting grant applications.
- Stay abreast of new research progress and technological advances to upgrade research skills and produce accurate results. Research literature for new progress and technological advances.
- Maintain lab equipment, assist in necessary repairs, and promote a safe laboratory environment. Ensure direct reports follow safety procedures and attend basic safety training courses.
- As a senior member of the lab, may lead lab meetings and mentor junior lab members, including staff, students, and postdocs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills
Minimum Education
Doctorate Degree required
Minimum Experience
2 years of experience in a related research environment and have verifiable publications within the field of the research project required
Physical Requirements
Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
