The role of a Risk Analyst

As a Risk Analyst within the Global Risk Management team, you will play a key role in strengthening and enhancing the firm’s overall control environment. This position requires a well-rounded understanding of risk management principles and control best practices across both the first and second lines of defence.

The Risk Management function at GLAS operates as a centralised, global, and cross-asset class team, partnering closely with Senior Management and business units to ensure risks are effectively identified, assessed, and managed within the firm’s risk appetite.

This role offers the opportunity to work in a highly visible function with broad exposure across the business, contributing directly to the firm’s governance, risk oversight, and strategic decision-making.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for assisting with the collation of Key Risk Indicators and risk meeting data points
  • Produce the minutes for the regional risk meetings
  • Involved with the review and follow ups required to ensure that incidents logged reflect the issue, identify the control gaps and that the action items correctly remediate the issue
  • Assist with the preparation of risk presentations and case studies of incidents
  • Assists with global risk initiatives, thematic risk reviews and other remediation/assurance work that delivers concrete risk reduction/mitigation.
  • Participate in the ongoing enhancements to the existing risk system and the build out of the future RCSA tool
  • Develop an understanding of the roles, processes and key operational risks and challenges encountered by each team within GLAS globally including the regional nuances
  • Promotes a strong risk and control culture, positive learning environment, contribute to risk awareness training and development, and help to ensure that learnings and best practices are shared in an effective way.
  • Proactively drives the identification, assessment, and mitigation of operational risk.
  • Assist with regulatory reporting and audit information requests
  • Promote a strong governance culture which is embedded within the teams.

Key skills and experience required are:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent
  • 2+ years’ experience in Risk Management in financial markets
  • Entrepreneurial business focus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrable time-management skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to effectively manage priorities while balancing competing demands and deadlines
  • Applies knowledge, skills, and techniques to understand processes and the controls required to mitigate the risk of errors
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders in a purposeful and constructive manner
  • Enjoy working in a challenging environment, being proactive in understanding operational processes, controls, and risks ensuring that they are in line with GLAS values, policies and procedures
  • Highly organised and adaptable with a “can do” positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to identify issues and escalate accordingly
  • Proactive thinker and planner with a strong work ethic
  • Comfortable supporting cross-functional, often complex, work streams
  • Excellent planning and scheduling skills; ability to understand complex workflows and can identify how to improve their controls and processes
