Risk Control & Loss Prevention Supervisor
The Risk Control & Loss Prevention Supervisor provides supervision of risk consulting and assessment activities. This position assists the Risk Control & Loss Prevention Manager in planning, organizing, and directing the County Risk Management Department's safety, environmental, and loss control programs. This position also acts as Risk Control Specialist or Environmental Specialist in their absence.

The Maricopa County Risk Management Department provides administration of an enterprise risk management program, whose aim is to provide a portfolio of risk management services to increase the benefit of opportunity and decrease the cost of risk. Primarily, the RMD serves the County in these three key areas: liability claims administration, risk financing (insurance procurement), and risk management consultation.

We require three years of experience in risk management, occupational safety, environmental management, or loss control. A bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, Construction Engineering, or a related field is also required. A combination of post-secondary education and/or job-related experience may substitute for the minimum qualifications on a year-for-year basis.
We also value two years of supervisory experience, five years of experience in risk management or safety management, training in risk management programs, risk assessment, safety management, or environmental management, experience in developing professional-level training programs, and the following certifications: Certified Safety Specialist (CSP), Occupational Health & Safety Technologist (OHST), Safety Management Specialists (SMS), and others.
Job contributions include assisting in the preparation of operational and risk reports, day-to-day supervision of personnel, coordinating assessments to assist County departments in the development of an effective safety culture, participating in staff selection, providing or coordinating staff training and coaching, conferring with claims staff on legal issues affecting the County's exposure to risks, maintaining communications with professional organizations in risk management, safety, and environmental fields, and other job duties as assigned.
Working conditions include the need for a valid Arizona driver's license, hybrid flexibility after a brief training period, and occasional to constant exertion of 20-25 pounds, 10-25 pounds, or up to 10 pounds. The position is typically office or administrative work and is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. However, the incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration. The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties and responsibilities, the employee may be exposed to loud noise, noxious odors, unsanitary conditions, chemicals, electricity, moving mechanical parts, varying weather conditions, and other related conditions and situations. Position is subject to atmospheric conditions: fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
Machines, tools, equipment, software, and hardware include equipment trailers, box truck & lift gate operation, pick-up truck and sedan vehicle driving, golf cart, basic hand tools, noise dosimetry, sound level meter, heat stress meter, AV projectors, Canva, Samsara vehicle telematics, Origami Risk Management, Adobe Captivate, and MS suite, including SharePoint. Protective equipment required includes occasional use of a hard hat, hearing protection, respirator, safety glasses, and safety-toe work shoes/boots.
