Senior Finance Analyst

Job Summary

The successful candidate will possess a broad technical and analytical background related to risk functions. This is a critical role which requires independent work abilities but also strong collaborative capabilities across departments, including Commercial (Asset Management), Development, Finance, and Accounting, and subsidiaries to adequately identify, quantify, mitigate, and report risk.

Responsibilities

Under the direction of the EVP - Risk & Finance, this person will manage and support the Company's enterprise risk management functions, primarily in the areas of credit, market, development, and insurance. Specific responsibilities include the following:

  • Credit Risk – Assess and monitor creditworthiness of counter parties; assist with negotiating credit terms in various trading and service agreements (e.g., EEI, EMA, ISDA, etc.); and generate credit reviews and reports and distribute to management.
  • Market Risk – Evaluate market risks by developing / using quantification models for operating assets or financial & energy products. Work with various teams to reduce market risks through hedging (e.g., forwards, futures, options, PPAs, etc.). Understand the energy commodity markets, including electricity, capacity, and ancillary services in North America (e.g., CAISO, ERCOT, PJM, etc.).
  • Collateral Management - Manage the application, amendment, and expiration of In-Bound/Out-Bound credit support (i.e., Parent Guarantees, LCs, surety bonds, liens, cash, etc.). Support collateral needs of various departments and subsidiaries and report on outstanding collaterals. Manage LC facilities.
  • Business & Development – Assist the Risk Management Committee on administrative items and work with the development team on insurance and other development risks.
  • Insurance – Work with brokers and internal stakeholders to obtain necessary insurance products for the Company and its operating assets, including its development activities.
  • Ad Hoc Analysis – Work closely with commercial, finance and accounting groups, to interpret and analyze value, explain risk metrics, and provide risk analysis around the energy portfolio positions. Willing to provide ad hoc analysis and support to areas outside of risk management.

Preferred skills, experience and background

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Field (e.g., Finance, Economics, Accounting, Risk Management) or Quantitative Field (e.g., Math, Statistics)
  • 3 – 5 years of experience with risk management, trading, insurance, finance and/or FP&A functions
  • Previous work experience in the energy sector or strong willingness to learn
  • Extremely comfortable in Excel, PPT, and Microsoft Office products
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong analytical, problem solving, organizational and time management skills
  • Self-starter and proactive in making continuous improvements
