Iwa Robotics develops autonomous aircraft and robotic systems for emergency management and infrastructure operations. We are looking for a Robotics/Autonomy Engineer to build the intelligence that makes our platforms fly, navigate, and operate independently.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement autonomous flight software including path planning, obstacle avoidance, and mission execution
- Work with Ardu Pilot/PX4 flight stacks — customize, tune, and extend for our platforms
- Build perception and sensor fusion pipelines integrating LiDAR, cameras, IMUs, GPS, and environmental sensors
- Develop autonomy software for BVLOS (Beyond Visual Line of Sight) operations
- Implement computer vision and AI/ML models for real-time detection tasks (fire, environmental hazards, infrastructure inspection)
- Architect ROS/ROS2-based systems for multi-vehicle coordination and ground station integration
- Support simulation, hardware-in-the-loop testing, and field flight trials
Qualifications
- B.S. or M.S. in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- 2+ years working on autonomous systems, UAS software, or robotics
- Strong proficiency in C++ and/or Python
- Experience with Ardu Pilot, PX4, or similar open-source flight control frameworks
- Familiarity with ROS/ROS2, MAVROS, and MAVLink protocols
- Experience with computer vision (OpenCV, YOLO, or similar) and sensor fusion techniques
- Understanding of GNC (Guidance, Navigation, and Control) principles
- Experience with BVLOS regulatory frameworks, Drone Kit, or AI-at-the-edge deployment is a plus
- Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident) due to ITAR/EAR compliance requirements.
