Job Description

Hong Kong Centre for Logistics Robotics Limited

The Hong Kong Centre for Logistics Robotics was established in 2020 by The Chinese University of Hong Kong under the support of the InnoHK Clusters of the HKSAR government, with research contributions from the University of California, Berkeley.

The Centre focuses on the research and development (R&D) of robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies for “future workplace” as well as innovative solutions to the “pressing problems” in the logistics industry. Our centre located in Hong Kong Science Park.

We are looking for a Robotics Engineer – SLAM

We rely on you to:

  • Design and implement SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) algorithms for complex indoor/outdoor environments using multi-sensor fusion (e.g., LiDAR, RGB-D cameras, IMU…);
  • Optimize SLAM performance—real-time capability, accuracy, robustness, and computational efficiency—for high-dynamic platforms including legged robots, AGVs, and humanoids;
  • Develop modules for map building, re-localization, loop closure detection, long-term localization, and multi-robot coordination, ensuring stable operation in dynamic or texture-poor environments;
  • Collaborate closely with motion planning, control, perception, and hardware teams to enable end-to-end autonomous navigation and task execution;
  • Validate, tune, and deploy algorithms in simulation (e.g., Isaac Sim, Gazebo) and on physical robot platforms;
  • Document technical work and contribute to publications, patents, or open-source projects to drive real-world impact.

We are looking for:

Education:

  • Master’s or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

Special Skills & Experience:

  • Strong expertise in classical and modern SLAM frameworks (e.g., ORB-SLAM, VINS-Mono, LOAM, LIO-SAM, Fast-LIO, FAST-LIVO2, Kimera, Voxel-SLAM ), particularly those leveraging LiDAR-inertial or visual-inertial fusion for high-dynamic platforms such as legged or humanoid robots;
  • Proficient in sensor calibration, time synchronization, and state estimation (EKF, factor graph optimization, iSAM, GTSAM, etc.);
  • Hands-on experience deploying SLAM systems on legged, wheeled, or humanoid robots;
  • Proficient in C++ and Python; experienced with ROS/ROS2 and Linux;
  • Prior project experience with LiDAR-SLAM, VIO, or VIL (Visual-Inertial-LiDAR) is preferred;
  • Familiarity with point cloud processing, 3D reconstruction, semantic SLAM, neural radiance fields (NeRF), or real-time obstacle avoidance using local mapping and perception;

Languages:

  • Fluent in English/Cantonese/Mandarin (written and spoken).

Work Experience:

  • 2+ years of relevant industry or research experience in SLAM or robotic perception (industry or academia).

We offer:

  • 14 days annual leaves
  • Medical insurance
  • Dental healthcare
  • Friendly working environment and working culture

We are an equal opportunity employer and prohibits discrimination and harassment of any kind. We are committed to the principle of equal employment opportunity for all employees and to providing employees with a work environment free of discrimination and harassment.
